The paper sums up many data have been collected giving support to genetic and environmental determinants of six temperamental traits postulated in the Regulative Theory of Temperament (RTT) presented by Jan Strelau: briskness, perseverance, sensory sensitivity, emotional reactivity, endurance and activity. Biological foundations of temperament, behavioral genetics methods as well as the sources, both genetic and environmental, of behavior variability has been briefly described. The results of twin studies conducted with the use of the FCB-TI, as well as the TCI inventory for children confirmed the heritability of the RTT traits under study in various age groups as well as the existence of a significant input of the specific environment factor into their variability. Results of molecular research concerned with the association between two temperamental traits: activity and emotional reactivity, and the polymorphism in the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTT), the dopamine receptor gene (DRD4), and the dopamine transporter gene (DAT1) in healthy men aged 18 to 27 employing the PCR method demonstrated a statistically significant association between the DRD4 gene polymorphism and emotional reactivity as well as between the 5-HTT gene polymorphism and activity. No significant association in genotype was observed between activity and emotional reactivity and polymorphism in the DAT1 gene.

The aim of the study was to assess the heritability as well as the personality predictors of socio-economical attitudes. Attitudes were examined on two separate dimensions: moral conservatism - liberalism and free market economy - state interventionism. The studied sample comprised two groups of subjects: 242 twin pairs aged 18 to 25 (119 monozygotic and 123 dizygotic same-sex twins reared together), and 197 male and female students of the technical university aged 19 to 25. The authors detected a substantial input of the genetic factor exclusively in the variability of results on the conservatism-liberalism scale (0.28). Results on both scales were to a large extent explained by the impact of shared environment, and, to a lesser extent - of nonshared environment. Results of regression analysis have shown that only two personality traits: neuroticism and agreeableness may serve as best predictors of economical attitudes (high level of both dimensions was associated with state interventionism).

In this study, the authors examined the association between high and low level of activity and emotional reactivity as two temperamental traits and DRD4 and DAT-1 gene polymorphisms in healthy men aged from 18 to 27 lat (M=21.03; SD=2.23). The data analysis performed with PCR method has shown that the DRD4 polymorphism was significantly associated with emotional reactivity (p=0.027), while no significant association in genotype was observed between activity and emotional reactivity and polymorphism in the DAT-1 gene.
