The article presents the debate which took place during few days on February 1965 in Ariccia (near Rome), where the members of the subcommittee of doctrine “Gaudium et spes” met to prepare the pastoral constitution. Two projects were compared. The first one was that of Pierre Haubtmann from Paris and the second one that of Karol Wojtyła from Cracow. The role of the catholic community in forming interhuman relationship, dialogue and the significance of social doctrine of the Church were underlined in Haubtmann’s project, and as well a Christian vision of the world was presented. The second project showed the theological principles of Church’s mission in today’s world with special attention given to religious freedom and the identity of believers. The supernatural, salvific character of the Church’s activity was stressed as an essential perspective in her relationship with the contemporary world. During the debate, the key role of Christian anthropology was indicated to treat this relationship as well. As a result of the debate the subcommittee decided to add to the Haubtmann project a new ecclesiological chapter: (“the Role of the Church in the modern world”) of the pastoral constitution. This was a result of having brought into consideration Wojtyla’s project which reflected the situation of Church behind the Iron Curtain at that time.

Artykuł ukazuje wpływ katolicyzmu francuskiego na formację intelektualną i pastoralną Karola Wojtyły oraz na jego rozumienie roli Kościoła w świecie i znaczenia Soboru Watykańskiego II. Wojtyła na studiach w Rzymie „wszedł” w wir prowadzonej w Kościele intelektualnej polemiki. Toczyła się ona głównie między francuskimi teologami. Wiodącą rolę odgrywał o. Réginald Garrigou-Lagrange, moderator pracy doktorskiej studenta z Krakowa. Dla Wojtyły była istotna kwestia przeciwstawienia się dechrystianizacji. Napięcia między konserwatyzmem i progresizmem towarzyszyły polemikom w latach powojennych, jak i w czasie trwania oraz po Vaticanum II. Wojtyłę interesowała merytoryczna odpowiedź na kwestię zbawienia człowieka w dzisiejszym świecie. Umiejętnie korzystając z refleksji polemizujących stron, formułował własną syntezę teologiczno-pastoralną, wierną katolickiej tradycji, a przy tym podejmującą wyzwania nowych czasów.

The article The Role of French Theologians in Karol Wojtyla’s Intellectual Formation shows the influence of French Catholicism in the intellectual and pastoral formation of Karol Wojtyła and in his understanding of the Church’s mission in the contemporary world and of the significance of the Second Vatican Council. Studying in Rome, he knew the theological debate which developed in the Church at that time. Mainly French theologians were involved in the polemic, especially Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange who was the director of Wojtyla’s doctorate. For the young priest from Cracow the most important issue was a reaction to the process of secularization. The tension between the conservatives and the progressives accompanied the polemics which continued in the post-war time and during and after Vatican II. Wojtyła was interested in finding the substantive answer for the question of man’s salvation in today’s society. In a knowledgeable way he benefitted from reflections developed by both sides of the intellectual dispute in the Church and formulated his own theological and pastoral synthesis, faithful to the Catholic Tradition and able to respond to the new challenge of the contemporary world.

Papież w nowy sposób przedstawił teologiczny i antropologiczny wymiar prawdy o miłosierdziu Bożym oraz jej egzystencjalne i społeczne konsekwencje. Bóg objawiony przez Chrystusa jest miłosiernym Ojcem, skorym do przebaczenia grzechów i dzielenia cierpienia z człowiekiem. Miłosierdzie Boże wyzwala miłosierdzie ludzkie, będąc wewnętrzną siłą do praktykowania miłości na co dzień, które winno wyrażać się moralną dojrzałością i postawą apostolstwa. Miłosierdzie zabezpiecza godność ludzką i podstawową równość wszystkich podmiotów życia społecznego. Koryguje sprawiedliwość, służąc rozwojowi społecznemu.

The article, “Prophetical nature of the encyclical ʻDives in Misericordia’ by Saint John Paul II”, shows two aspects of mercy: its salvifi c signifi cance in the human life and its contribution to promote justice in the world. Thanks to the new approach, the Pope presented the theological truth of mercy with its anthropological, existential and social consequences. God, revealed by Christ, is the merciful Father, willing to forgive people and suffer with them, to give them hope and support. This truth involves Christians practicing mercy daily and it has its signifi cance in the moral life, in the life of faith and for the evangelization of today’s world. Mercy in social life puts attention to the central placebof human dignity and equality of all subjects and in this way corrects and develops justice.

This paper compares the periods before and after the Ukrainian crisis of 2014 from the perspective of market microstructure. The hypothesis is that the crisis influenced the fragile Russian financial market equilibrium. As financial markets adapt to the new equilibrium, the paper studies the effects of the crisis and the imposition of economic sanctions on Russia in terms of volatility, duration, prices and volume for selected joint stock companies listed on the U.S. and the Russian stock markets. Results reveal that the Moscow Stock exchange lacks an appropriate transmission mechanism from informed investors to the rest of the market.
