The author analyses nouns denoting people in the contemporary Russian language. The ways such nouns appear in the 21st century Russian linguistic system fit well into general tendencies of the development of the Russian lexicon, mostly involving internalization. Therefore the majority of new names denoting people are either loanwords or hybrid words, i. e. lexemes derived from foreign stems with the use of Russian affixes. The most numerous thematic groups are constituted by names of professionals and political activists.

The aim of the article is to present the notion “derivation category” in the light of structural and cognitive linguistics. The mentioned question is described on the basis of the example of Polish and Russian categories: nomina attributiva and nomina instrumenti. The author also touches upon the question of classical categorization theory and the concept of prototype categories which has significantly influenced the way of perception of the question under discussion.

The author of the article present the ways of profiling of reality by Russian compund namesof instruments in comparison to their Polish equivalents. The analysis of the lexical material showsthat the majority of Russian nomina instrumenti and their Polish counterparts expose the same orvery similar semantic aspects. The differences in the ways of presenting of cognitive content canbe observed only in the group of these Russian compound nouns which Polish equivalents belongto the suffixal derivatives.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja dynamicznych zmian w polskim i rosyj-skim systemie leksykalnym dokonujących się pod wpływem pandemii koronawirusa na świecie. Materiał badawczy zaczerpnięty został z polskich i rosyjskich czasopism, audycji radiowych i telewizyjnych oraz tekstów internetowych z pierwszej połowy 2020 roku. Jego analiza strukturalno-semantyczna pozwala na przedstawienie wpływu, jaki obecna sytuacja wywiera na polskie i rosyjskie słownictwo. Od momentu pojawie-nia się wiadomości o coraz liczniejszych zachorowaniach na COVID-19 w obu językach uaktywniły się wyrazy kluczowe, stanowiące bazę słowotwórczą dla powstających nie-mal każdego dnia neologizmów w postaci złożeń, kontaminacji i derywatów prostych. Część wyrazów zyskała zupełnie nowe znaczenie lub zgoła odmienne nacechowanie. Do ogólnej odmiany obu badanych systemów językowych przeniknęła duża liczba wyra-zów specjalistycznych, wywodzących się głównie z terminologii medycznej. Szerząca się epidemia nieodwracalnie zmieniła wiele aspektów życia współczesnego człowieka. Mocno odcisnęła swoje piętno także na systemie leksykalnym języka polskiego i rosyjskiego.

The paper analyses the dynamic changes in the Polish and Russian lexi-cal system taking place under the influence of the coronavirus pandemic. The research material was excerpted from Polish and Russian magazines, TV news and internet texts from the first half of 2020. A structural and semantic analysis of neologisms demon-strated the impact that extralinguistic factors have on the language. Since the news about the increasing numbers of cases of COVID-19 appeared, keywords have been activated in both languages acting as a word-formation base for new compounds, contaminations and simple derivatives. Some common words have acquired a new meaning or a completely different connotation. A large number of specialist words, derived mainly from medical terminology, have penetrated the general variety of both language systems under study. The pandemic has irreversibly changed many aspects of contemporary life. It has also left a strong mark on the lexical system of Polish and Russian.
