Over the last few years a growing interest in Arab countries as shown in social media can be observed. Social media are not only used to exchange information but also to express opinions, which has increased particularly after Arab Spring in 2011. This article presents some examples of social networking services in selected libraries (mainly in academic libraries) in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other countries in this region. Among librarians Facebook, Twitter or YouTube are particularly popular, librarian blogs are also created. Web 2.0 applications are used to communicate with the reader and to carry out trainings but Library 2.0 model is not yet popular in Arab libraries.

It has been widely believed that David Hilbert, a precursor of formalism, consid-ered mathematics an ordinary “game of signs”. In this paper, I try to show that Hilbert worked out and applied in his research a cohesive, holistic and organic, as well as universal picture of mathematics (as a supranational discipline) and a vision of its development. This scientific area was supposed to constitute a complex construction, and was perceived by him in an optimistic and humanistic way (it enabled solution to any research problem and fulfilled diverse human needs). External experience (e.g. in the case of geometric pictures) and abstraction of its internal structures (a priori state, mathematical analysis of infinity) are particularly important for this exact science. Mathematics creates a bridge between theory and practice, between thinking and ob-servation.
Technological progress and achievements are fundamental to social and economic progress. On the other hand however, they pose a threat to men, who fail to keep abreast of the pace and the results of the changes that take place. Science and education play therefore a crucial role in preventing the most significant problems. Dehumanisation is a real threat to the contemporary man. By means of analysing historical conditions for creating the term ‚Bildung’, in particular in Germany, I draw attention to how this idea could possibly be an alternative to the modern man.
The aim of the paper is to present the main trends within philosophy in Norway. The author also discusses the most important research works carried out at university centres, the goal of which is to analyse Norwegian post-war philosophy. The predominant movement, so called ‘practical philosophy’, deals with ethical, religious, political, social and economic issues. Many Norwegian philosophers are also active as university teachers or researchers at universities in Oslo (e.g. Arne Naess, Hans Skjervheim, Trond Berg Eriksen, Torstein Tollefsen, Anfinn Stigen) and in Bergen (e.g. Gunnar Skirbekk, Nils Gilje, Vigdis Songe-Møller, Knut Erik Tranøy)
