The paper's focus is on three main issues: (1) it examines the influences of the external, mainly political turbulences on the conception and publishing of ten volumes of 'Anthology of Philosophers' Works' (Antologia z diel filozofov, 1966-1977), paying attention especially to anomalies accompanying its accomplishment; (2) on wider philosophical background on which this project has been carried out, such as the formation of the generation of Slovak historians of philosophy, creating the Slovak philosophical terminology, 'Anthology' as a propagator of philosophical pluralism, problems concerning translations etc.; (3) on inspiring and long-lasting effect of 'Anthology' on the development of Slovak philosophy, on teaching philosophy at universities, but also on the Slovak culture in general.

The paper offers a description on the second project (after the publication of 10 volumes of 'Philosophical Anthology' 1965 - 1977) of the translations of the books of influential philosophers into the Slovak. The project has been carried out in the time of strict political normalization and neodogmatism. In spite of the political conditions the editors managed to publish 20 volumes of classical philosophy, 10 volumes of the Western philosophy of that time and 16 volumes of Marxist philosophy. The impact of the project was far-reaching. First of all, it offered a support to Slovak philosophy, which at that time was on its progressive way to the status of an academic discipline.

The paper depicts the complicated process of professionalizing of the philosophy in Slovakia and the role an academic society (Slovak philosophical society) played in it. The establishment of this society reflected a rather high professional level of the philosophy in our country. During the normalization period (1970s and 1980s) this process was slowed down, but not entirely interrupted. Under the ideological pressure the society hardly could achieve the objectives set in favor of the development of the philosophy and the professional unity of the philosophers. The true philosophical potential, which has been accumulating even in such unfavorable conditions, could freely manifest itself only after the social transformation in 1989. Today the philosophy in Slovakia is fully professionalized. It is also due to the activity of the Slovak Philosophical Association, which replaced the previous philosophical society.

The article deals with the comprehensibility of the model of empirical science (i.e. the model of hypothetical confirmationism) in Hrusovsky's writings. Further, it examines Hrusovsky's conception of the development of scientific knowledge as related to his concept of 'radical revision' (corresponding to scientific revolution). The authors draw mainly from books written by Hrusovsky in 1935 - 1948.

In the first part of the paper the authors describe Hrusovsky's model of the development of scientific knowledge, which, due to the influence of logical empiricism, he saw as cumulative, hypothetical-confirmational and internal, i.e. taking into account only scientific factors. In the second part it is showed, that Hrusovsky acknowledged the influence of the external factors, emphasizing at the same time the fundamental independence of scientific knowledge. He dismissed the vulgar economism as well as the extreme internalism (immanentism).
