The author presents the above problem in a multifaceted, especially political and scientific dimension. Subjects concerning Russia evoke emotions in Poland, which is natural because of close neighbourhood of the two countries as well as complex history of mutual relations. By way of example, the author mentions some most preposterous anti-Russian phobias and particularly, he indicates our complete ignorance of the history and modern times of our historically eastern neighbour. Contemporary Russia still surprises us, it remains almost completely unknown to Polish readership. Not many people have noticed that the 90th anniversary (celebrated in July 2008) of a brutal murder of the last Russian ruler along with his family, described in Russia as one of the most tragic events in their history, contributed to a great journalistic debate on the possibility of restoration of the monarchy in that country. The issue is precisely described by the author who considers reality of such a system metamorphosis. In the present article, research needs in this area are compared with a current state of research on Russia and eastern politics in Olsztyn community, considering its potential and personnel.
