This article presents an account of research based on individual in-depth interviews. It emphasizes the aspects of the functioning of people with impairments which are difficult to capture by carrying out quantitative analysis. This paper is aimed to describe selected factors that determine the activity of disabled people, in particular those which could be used in further, more precise studies of disability.

The presented material is a concise report of research carried out on the conditions of isolation of people with disabilities. This article highlights the influence of the selected factors on disabled people remaining isolated or escaping from solitude. The collected research material consists of biographical studies of selected cases.

Prezentowany artykuł jest syntetyczną relacją z badań nad uwarunkowaniami osamotnienia osób niepełnosprawnych. Wyeksponowano w nim wpływ wybranych czynników na pozostawanie tych osób w izolacji, a także ich wpływ na wydostawanie się z samotności. Materiał badawczy stanowią biograficzne studia przypadków.
