The aim of the article is to show the relationship between an image of Zion-Jerusalem in the Ps 134 and the Lucan theology of the Holy City. Even though it is not easy to draw a certain conclusion on the issue, one could say that the Lucan idea of the Holy City is much more compound that the one present in the Psalter, but it is certainly built upon it. At first the third evangelist took the Psalmist’s point of view stressing both the role of Jerusalem and its sanctuary, but in the conclusion of his two volume work he preserved only a salvation-historical function of the City separating it from its cultic context.

The article deals with the issue little discussed nowadays, for in comparison to a very popular idea of the history of salvation, biblical geography of salvation is rather neglected. There are of course some very good articles and monographs devoted to the role of the land within biblical tradition, but scholars tend to diminish the significance of the holy space within the Christian experience. However, even though the Holy Land is certainly a less significant factor in Christianity tradition than it is in the Old Testament and in the current Judaism, one cannot separate history from its cultural and geographical setting. Thus contemporary Christian experience must contain its spatial feature and it has to be consciously appreciated.

Obraz gwiazdy w Ewangelii św. Mateusza był wielokrotnie komentowany przez egze¬ge-tów. Dawniejsze wyjaśnienia oparte na astronomicznych zjawiskach tylko w pewnym stopniu mogą przyczynić się do zrozumienia opowiadania. Inne interpretacje wspominają o starożytnych wierzeniach o gwieździe ukazującej się podczas narodzin ważnych ludzi, ale i one mogą pełnić funkcję jedynie naukowej hipotezy. Nie rozstrzygając dyskusji na temat historycznego tła wydarzeń opisanych w opowiadaniu Mateusza, warto przyjrzeć się bliżej znaczeniu frazy en tē anatolē. Bogata panorama staro¬testa¬mentowych tekstów i powiązania między czasownikiem anatellō (LXX) i jego hebrajskim odpowiednikiem zāraḥ ukazują szerszy kontekst i nowe możliwości jej rozu¬mie¬nia. Zaproponowane wyjaśnienie wspiera waga narracyjnej funkcji gwiazdy w opowiadaniu, w którym magowie prowadzeni jej światłem docierają do nowo narodzonego Króla.

The star image in the Gospel of Matthew has been repeatedly commented upon by many scholars. Some older interpretations, based on various known astronomical phenomena, have proved of limited use in terms of understanding the passage. There are some other explanations that depend upon ancient beliefs about stars appearing at the time an important person comes into the world. All these solutions, however, represent no more than scientific or historical hypothesis. Without entering into historical discussions about stars or the beliefs of ancient generations in the Middle East, the author of the paper proposes to look afresh at one enigmatic phrase in the Matthean story: en tē anatolē. A rich panorama of Old Testament quotations, which serve to connect the verb anatellō (LXX) with its Hebrew equivalent zāraḥ, reveal a wider context and thus some new possibilities for our understanding of the phrase. The author’s explanation is supported by an important narrative function of the star within the story, where the magi seeing its light are led to the newborn King.

The article presents an analysis of three figures of Lucan version of the infancy narrative: Zechariah (Luc 1,5-23.57-79), Simeon (Luc 2,25-35), and Anna (Luc 2,36-38). There at least two thing that make these people alike: they are all in their old age and they pray to God. Even though the material concerning these personages is not fully comparable, it is possible to capture some similarities in their prayer: historical perspective, eschatological dimension, and universalism. All these three people not only pray to God but also the bear a witness to God.

Because of the richness of Lukan theology regarding witness, the author was unable to cover all of its aspects. Thus the study touches only upon its major threads. Besides the obvious issues of the apostles role as witnesses, the content of their witnessing, and its recipients – the study presents some other personalities involved in transmitting the Good News of God’s salvation to humanity. Indeed, the greatest stress is placed on the testimony of God himself. Despite being a constant Mystery for humankind, He never ceases being involved in their history and witnessing to his salvific plans. Although there are only a few texts within Acts that connect the persons of the Trinity to witnessing, one should consider them as fundamental to a full Lukan theology of witness.

Bogactwo Łukaszowej teologii na temat świadectwa nie pozwoliło autorowi artykułu na objęcie wszystkich jej aspektów. Studium podjęło jedynie główne wątki, które do niej należą. Jednakże, obok oczywistych kwestii, takich jak świadectwo apostołów, jego treść i odbiorcy, artykuł zawiera jeszcze charakterystykę innych osób uczestniczących w przekazywaniu ludziom Dobrej Nowiny o zbawieniu. Motywem najmocniej zaakcentowanym w artykule jest świadectwo samego Boga. Pozostając dla człowieka nieustającą tajemnicą, nigdy nie przestaje On uczestniczyć w jego historii i dawać świadectwa na temat swoich zbawczych planów. Mimo że liczba tekstów w Dziejach Apostolskich łączących poszczególne Osoby Trójcy Świętej ze świadectwem jest niewielka, należy je uznać za fundamentalne dla Łukaszowej teologii świadectwa.
