The text is an attempt to form an opinion in the discourse on „subjective, hidden, procedural, silent” knowledge, which is part of the discussion on the definition of a knowledge society. The text distinguishes and characterises three stages of the aforementioned discussion and comes to the conclusion that currently it lacks facts, one deals with calques, various simplifications, the blurring of the meaning and limits of this term, which leads to the phrase „knowledge society” being used in a way that is unjustified and devoid of thought, and in effect to its loss of value. In the opinion of the Author, maintaining and continuing this discussion on the knowledge society and learning is in the best interest of pedagogues and pedagogy, as it justifies our (sciences devoted to learning) existence in public discourse. However, the discussion should center around substantive content and not slogans. With this in mind the results of studies carried out by Chriastine Hof on the subjective concepts of andragogues’ knowledge in Germany have been presented. On basis of these studies three types of subjective andragogue’s visions on the nature of knowledge, different strategies for acquiring and presenting it, as well as the relations between them, have been presented. They can be carried over to the issue of the knowledge society, whose citizens have a stronger awareness of their teacher’s role in various contexts: at home, work and in their free time.

Paul Honigsheim (1885-1963) – pioneer of andragogy in Cologne (Germany) – in this article he is considered not due to his accomplishments in the field of theory, but his model career development within the German andragogical society predicated by culture, society and politics. His biography shows the begin-ning of a scientific and professional approach towards adult education, especially its relationship with sociology and ethnography. Mr. Honigsheim's life is that of a migrant – from Germany to France, then Central and South America, and onto the USA, from where he could come back mentally to Germany after the war.

This article concerns the conditions for the transition from the adaptive capital of Poles to their development capital, during their life cycle. The present text is an analysis of existing sources, i.e. publications in the social sciences, research reports, and strategies regarding different spheres of life in Poland. Special attention has been paid to the barriers to the civilizational development of Poland, children’s capital, the situation and attitudes of contemporary youth, adults potential for change, as well as the relationship between the level of literacy in childhood and the quality of life in adulthood. The basis for changes paving the way for an accumulation of development capital built on the autonomy of individuals is a national education development strategy, socially agreed upon and consistently implemented for several tens of years, a strategy which has been absent from Poland since the political transition in 1989.
In this article I perform an analysis of the development of adult education practice in Germany which was happening for over 200 years and resulted in forming andragogy as an academic discipline during the 1970s in Europe. When adopting a periodization according to the dominant at a given time group with particular expectations, one may distinguish the following periods in German adult education: education of workers (1830-1870), education of the people (1870-1945), education of adults (1945-1970), further education (1970-1995), education of adults /further education as an element of lifelong learning (today). In the article the enumerated periods are characterised according to the following questions: whose needs does the adult education serve? whose needs does it satisfy? what kind of connections arise between politics, the practice of adult education, and andragogy?

The article focuses on the specific measurement, evaluation and validation of social competencies of an adaptive and emancipatory-critical character. The paper discusses the difficulties with the validation of the enumerated kinds of competencies. The author distinguishes three approaches to the study, evaluation and validation of social competencies. First of them is the description of competencies according to the acknowledged international standards and programs, as well as the description of professional competencies with the use of checklists. In case of the second approach, some standardized measurements tools are used, such as test and self-evaluation questionnaires. The third approach is based on a competence portfolio.
Uczyć agroekologii w grundtvigiańskim stylu. Przewodnik metodyczny pod red. Ewy Smuk-Straten- werth, Tomasza Maliszewskiego, Barbary Tokarskiej.
This article is an attempt to interpret some results of a diagnosis of the situation of young adults on the labour market in Poland, especially the following reports: The Youth 2011, and Human Capital Assessment. The study focused mainly on the obstacles associated with competences mismatch, in order to tackle this issue from the pedagogical point of view. The author paid particular attention to the possibility of different interpretations of the same empirical data and the discrepancies in the evaluation of the same phenomena. The hypothesis which I am trying to prove is the ambivalence of the labour market. This feature can be interpreted as typical for the nearly 25-year-old labour market in Poland; it may also indicate a progressive process of its disintegration. The situation in both cases is not conducive to planning short- and long-term educational objectives, and can result in a permanent discrepancy between the expectations of the labour market and learning outcomes.

The purpose of this article is to interpret the term ‘competence’ from the pedagogical perspective. The term hast became popular in the pedagogical circle due to the Polish Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning where social competence, next to knowledge and skills, is one of the three categories of learning results. In the article we are defining the term ‘competence’ and are showing its complex and multidimensional structure. We are also trying to answer the question concerning characteristics of social competence. From the analysis we conclude that the basis for developing social competence is emotional competence. This results from the functions fulfilled by emotions in our lives and social character of emotional competence. In the final part of the text we are trying to answer the question on how to organise conditions for developing competences (emotional and social ones) in educational practice.
The subject of the reflection is the role of difference and the approach to it in conceptualization and conduct comparative research of adult education on the example of the project “Cultural education of adults in Poland and Germany” which was executed in years 2000–2003. After 15 years we look at the cultural education of adults in Poland once again in order to determine the dynamics of the differences on the examined area through the prism of the continued research. In the conclusion we refer to what can be the added value of comparative research.

This study has searched for an answer to the question: do the core curricula of school education assume the learning outcomes relevant to the reflective, open community will be achieved? The study of the core curricula of every stage of school education has focused on learning outcomes leading to the development of competences related to cooperation, communication, autonomy, critical thinking, responsibility, civic participation and civic activity. The results show that all these competences are poorly represented in the core curricula. The research has been conducted within the project Improving Teaching Methods for Europe, funded by the EU program Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships.

Badania były realizowane w ramach projektu Improving Teaching Methods for Europe, finansowanego z program UE Erasmus+ Partnerstwo Strategiczne.
