In the article typical and atypical (syncretic) expressions by Ukrainian conjunctions of their formal-syntactic function have been analyzed. The reasons of leveling of semantic-syntactic load of subordinating and coordinating conjunctions have been determined; they have been divided into semantic and asemantic. The positions of such conjunctions in compound and complex sentences have been defined; weak semantic-syntactic specialization of subordinating conjunctions has been explained and their wide resources of transposition have been outlined.
