The paper introduces the methodology of the overlapping generations models with heterogeneous agents and aggregate uncertainty – macroeconomic, stochastic general equilibrium models that account for consumer heterogeneity mainly with respect to age and wealth. Taking as an example my own model, which additionally allows for labour market status and skill heterogeneity, I show how consumer consumption and investment decision rules are derived. I also provide a detailed discussion of the most popular computational algorithms used to deal with those models. The model is then used to examine welfare gains from eliminating business cycle fluctuations on the labour market in Poland for different groups of consumers.

W pracy przedstawiono metodologię budowy międzypokoleniowych modeli DSGE z niejednorodnymi podmiotami i zagregowanym ryzykiem.
In this paper we compared the accuracy of a few forecasting methods of the industrial production index in Poland. Naïve forecasts, simple autoregressive models, leading indicator models, factor models as well as joint models were included in the considerations. We used the out-of-sample RMSE and CPA tests as the main measures of the predictions accuracy. We found that three models provided the best predictions in most cases – the models with the PMI index and with the PMI and German IFO indexes as leading indicators as well as joint forecasts.
The paper compares three groups of methods used for best dynamic factor model selection for forecasting: modified information criteria, methods exclusively based on ex post forecasts analysis and mixed algorithms. It searches for the approach that delivers best out-of-sample forecasts according to mean square error measure. The analysis utilizes both Monte Carlo generated samples as well as real time series used for forecasting consumer inflation in Poland. Results show that best forecasts are obtained from the modified information criteria proposed by Groen and Kapetanios, whereas the methods that employ ex post forecasts from rolling windows usually give the worst predictions.

The paper studies the standard heterogeneous agents DSGE model with borrowing constraints and aggregate uncertainty where the rational expectations hypothesis is replaced by the adaptive learning scheme. The convergence of the learning process to the rational expectations as well as its impact on the capital distribution is analyzed. The simulations show that the learning process converges to rational expectations for all admissible initial values. It results in moderate but temporary changes in mean level of aggregate capital and small but persistent changes in Gini coefficient for the capital distribution.
The paper discusses application of stochastic programming approach to the portfolio selection problem involving estimation risk. It focuses on problems aiming at assuring that the portfolio risk does not exceed a given limit with high probability. For solving the problems the sample approximation approach is proposed for which the most important issues like a method used for generating subsamples, setting the correct number of subsamples and empirical confidence level parameter are discussed. As far as the first issue is concerned a bootstrap approach was superior to Monte Carlo method in a simulation study based on returns data of stocks listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. For the latter problems it is advised changing the empirical confidence level parameter instead of the number of subsamples to match expected confidence level of the stochastic program. It is also shown that the discussed approach is suitable for investors with high risk aversion.121-136

In the paper, we introduce probability distribution which augments any distribution from the exponential family with zero value (ZA-distribution). The new distribution is then employed in a regression model applied for forecasting value of a single claim in a large insurance portfolio (motor or property).
