Lots of different problems of contemporary Russian literature are considered in this article. The contemporary culture mostly consists of popular culture and it dominates all over the world. The article is focused on two Russian novelists: Oksana Robski and Viktoria Tokareva whose literature creation seems to be placed in the main stream of Russian popular literature. There are two books of these two authoresses that are analised: 'Svoja pravda' by Tokareva and 'Casual' by Robski. Tokareva shows a lot of problems and themes in her novel, especially involving a statistic Russian citizen that meets such feelings as love, loneliness, nostalgia for imperialism in his everday life. The novel 'Casual' is a kind of diary that describes real events from an everyday life of a new Russian 'bourgeois'. It is ironic tale about the 'New Russians' from Rublovka - the richest area of Moscow. The 'New Russians' are described 'from inside' by someone from their society. The book is a new form of social novel written by a women-writer from Russian upper class. It can be noticed without any doubt that books of these two writers show another side of reality that is very interesting and unique. Their novels show a lot of curious events from a dull everyday life of common Russians and a glossy world of the 'New Russians'. A fact must be underlined that pop-culture does not mean an empty entertainment but it also brings important contents and although it is widely criticized it cannot be ignored.
