During the 15th World Congress of Economic Historians, held in August 2009 in Utrecht, the 15th anniversary of the congresses of International Association of Economic History was remembered. In the so-called presidential section (F 7: Origins and early years of the International Economic Congresses: Discussion Forum and Oral History), being in session on August 6th in the academic lounge in Utrecht under the presidency of Professors Maxine Berg and Pat Hudson and with the participation of the 'founding fathers', Dr. Herman Van Der Wee and others, the history of these congresses and the merits of the individual members of the society's Steering Commitee were remembered. Also the participation of the only Czech representative (after the Leningrad' congress 'unoffical') in the commitee, Prof. Dr. Arnost Klima was appreciated, especially his endeavours to establish contacts with the historians of the Soviet bloc. Upon the beginning of Normalization in Czechoslovakia, Arnost Klima, originally a prominent historian and a member correspondent of the Czech Academy of Sciences, became a persona non grata for political reasons. However, he was re-elected as a member of the Steering Commitee against the will of the communist government. The authorities of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education sabotaged the decision of the Steering Commitee by making it impossible for Klima to be present for the Steering Commitee proceedings as well as the international congresses organized by the association. We want, by publishing the relevant excerpts from Klima's unfinished and therefore unpublished memoirs, answering the appeal of the presidential section, to contribute to the clarification of this ill-famed chapter of history of the Czechoslovakian Economic Historiography in the era of Normalization and its international contacts.
