This article discusses one of the sources of Stefan Chwin’s writing imagination, namely the painting of Caspar David Friedrich. The author presents how the painting of the Romantic artist is present in the works of the Gdańsk novelist. It is pointed out that the presence of the Friedrich themes aims at representing ineffability and mystery which are touched upon by Stefan Chwin in his novels.
