The article discusses the subject from Polish professional literature relatively well-described and gradually widely known within professional circles, that is ‘theme tourist routes which use historic and cultural buildings and themes. Considering earlier publications referring to the subject of tourist routes in general [e.g. Kruczek 2007, Szewczyk 2008] and to cultural tourist routes in particular [Mikos v. Rohrscheidt 2008], it is not necessary to repeat the information about the routes and their descriptions. Therefore, the author – apart from presenting the idea of cultural routes in the perspective of Polish and foreign professional literature – focuses reader’s attention on two issues. They are both vital for proper functioning and development of the cultural tourist routes offer in Poland. Moreover, the issues can especially influence the extent to which these products are used by tourism organizers and individual tourists. The first issue regards proper classification of cultural tourist routes, and the problem of consequent use of correct terminology in professional literature, information materials and in setting up the trails. The second one is a set of requirements for creating new and developing the existing cultural tourist routes in Poland.

The proposals of the unified research standards, presented in the article, and the precise description of the subsequent research stages, are supposed to allow to undertake them independently in many centers throughout the country and, as a result, to lead to creating a map of potential cultural tourism destinations in Poland.

The article presents two essential aspects of modernly-organized theme routes functioning in the present-day cultural tourism: the thematization of space and the creation of the offer competitive to the thriving theme parks and city leisure centers. Analyzing the ideally-designed and coordinated thematic sightseeing system, the German Fairy Tale Route, created according to the complex method of the tourist potential analysis, the author shows the most important functions of theme routes as cultural tourism products reflecting the suggestions formulated by its organizers and researchers. After comparing the research data with the results of the analysis of some chosen Polish theme routes potential, the author formulates general conclusions and specific suggestions regarding their organization and offer.

After reviewing and briefly analyzing the contents and scope of several definitions of cultural tourism used in the official classification, in scientific considerations and in teaching practice, the author of the article presents a proposal of the phenomenon functional definition referring to the commonly used term of tourism as a primary concept. The proposal considers both current (broad) understanding of culture and itineraries (goals and contents) of tourist expeditions on the one hand, while on the other hand it considers the tourists’ cultural motivation aspect. The author’s goal is to make available and spread a useful tool to classify tourist offers and, consequently, to lead to the standardization of Polish professional terminology in the cultural tourism field. The proposal should be treated as a starting point for a discussion in professional circles on the subject of defining cultural tourism, with the option of considering tourism organizers and their needs in it.

The article deals with participants of living history reenactments and their activity in the context of interests, needs and cultural tourism organization. After pointing out to the most important issues connected with historical reenactment and to Polish publications on the subject, the author presents, on the basis of a survey, the profile of the group members taking up this area of cultural activity and the range of their activity with regard to educational sphere and directly to tourism. In the last part of the study, the author shows the possibilities standing in front of Polish tourist-cultural offer, relying on the potential of the reenactment groups. Finally, suggestions concerning the integration of the possibilities with the offer are formulated.

W kontekście zmian popytowych autor opracowania, po dokonaniu klasyfikacji typów usług przewodników turystycznych i wskazaniu fachowej literatury odnoszącej się do klasycznego przewodnictwa (część1), prezentuje kilka nowych form świadczenia tych usług w miastach. Na przykładach ofert proponowanych w szeregu miast Europy zostają zaprezentowane mieszane formy przewodnictwa: przewodnik-kierowca, przewodnik-konsultant zakupów i przewodnik-prelegent. Każdorazowo opisane są zadania przewodnika i wymagania, którym musi sprostać, realizując dany typ świadczenia. Autor wskazuje także możliwości jego wykorzystania w ramach oferty dla konkretnych grup turystów. W trzeciej części szczegółowo zostaje opisana także rola przewodnika w zwiedzaniu fabularyzowanym, a także możliwe jego wykorzystanie w questingu, zyskującej popularność formie turystyki realizowanej w warunkach samodzielnej aktywności turystów.

Taking into account changing demand, the author of the article starts with classifying types of guiding services and makes reference to specialist literature related to conventional guiding (part 1), and then proceeds to describe a few novel methods of providing such services in urban areas. Options on offer in various European cities are used as examples of mixed types of guiding services: “driving guide”, “guide and shopping adviser” and “guide-lecturer”. In each case the description includes guide’s duties and requirements which must be met by those providing such services. The author also points to the possible use of each type in options on offer for specific groups of travellers. The third part contains a detailed description of the guide’s role in dramatized tours, and his or her possible contribution to “questing”, an increasingly popular form of tours taken by visitors on their own.

Na tle aktualnych potrzeb zarówno ochrony środowiska, jak i turystyki, przedstawiono możliwe sposoby turystycznego zagospodarowania obszarów chronionych przez tworzenie programów turystyki zrównoważonej powiązanych z ich zasobami. In the context of the current state of the discussion on religious tourism in Poland, the author justifies the need for separate research focusing on tourism related activities oriented towards cognitive experiences and connected with places and events linked with beliefs, yet unrelated to one’s religious attitudes and not being part of one’s practice of faith. Numerous examples of tourist activities and available travelling options provide material for an analysis of typical destinations and for characteristics of products on offer for this kind of cultural tourism. Finally, the article points to the potential areas for research and problems requiring complex solutions for this segment of cultural tourism.

The dynamic development of military facilities tourism taking place in Europe in the last decades, only to a small degree concerns Poland, the country having a significant potential in this field. Article refers to a core group of values of cultural tourism - regularly organized cultural events. The scope of the survey is limited to the region of Wielkopolska (Greater Poland). The substantiation of the importance of cultural events for this segment of tourism is followed by a short review of the literature and the presentation of the methodology. Then, the author presents the results in the form of a list of cyclic events in Poznań and other localities in the region, divided in events of international, national and regional importance. Separately were presented themed events. The presentation is accompanied by a critical analysis. On this basis are formulated demands concerning the reorganization of the events offer in the region. Also are identified specific ways to solutions of the identified problems, aimed at increasing the diversity in the events offer and the and the creation of local tourism products around them.

Artykuł odnosi się do jednej z podstawowych grup walorów turystyki kulturowej – cyklicznie organizowanych eventów kulturalnych, przy czym zakres badań ogranicza się do regionu wielkopolskiego. Po uzasadnieniu znaczenia eventu dla tego segmentu turystyki oraz krótkim przeglądzie literatury fachowej zostaje zaprezentowana metodologia badania. Następnie w formie zestawienia autor prezentuje jego wyniki, dokonując ich krytycznej analizy. Na tej podstawie zostają sformułowane postulaty odnoszące się do reorganizacji oferty eventowej regionu oraz wskazane konkretne sposoby rozwiązań stwierdzonych problemów, ukierunkowanych na wzrost różnorodności oferty imprez i tworzenie wokół nich lokalnych produktów turystycznych. Szczegółowe zestawienie wyników badania w formie tabel, stanowiące podstawę faktograficzną dla przedkładanej tu analizy zostało opublikowane równolegle w Raporcie autora pt. ” Cykliczne eventy kulturalne Wielkopolski – 2013”1 .
