Currently an increasing number of initiatives in the domain of information retrieval aim at providing users with more relevant information. Information delivered in a response to a query should not only be relevant but also as concise as possible. This is especially important in the domain of public relations. The public relation practitioners daily process large amount of data that may influence company profiles. This paper describes two methods that may be applied for spatial indexing of documents retrieved from Internet sources. These methods may be used in a public relation search engine that would support work of PR analysts.

Due to the constantly growing interest in alternati ve investments, the art market has become the subject of numerous studies. By publishing sales data, many services and auction houses provide a foundati on for further research on the latest trends. Determining the definiti on of the arti sti c value or formalisation of appraisal may be considered quite complex. Statistical analysis, econometric methods or data mining techniques could pave the way towards bett er understanding of the mechanisms occurring on the art market. The goal of this paper is to identify, describe and compare solutions (and related challenges) that help to analyse, make decisions and defi ne state of the art in the context of the intersecti on of econometrics on art markets and computer science. This work is also a starting point for further research.

Adaptacyjne interfejsy użytkownika pozwalają modyfikować wygląd oraz sposób działania aplikacji, aby dostosować ją do preferencji użytkowników. Wykorzystuje je się często, gdyż pozwalają zwiększyć efektywność użytkowników w pracy z aplikacją oraz ułatwić im zaakceptowanie nowego systemu informatycznego. Adaptacyjność interfejsu napotyka jednak nowe wyzwania, jeżeli aplikacja jest tworzona w środowisku sieci WWW. Odpowiedzi na te wyzwania oraz ich rozwiązania zaprezentowano w artykule na przykładzie innowacyjnego, adaptacyjnego systemu bankowości elektronicznej. Architektura systemu została zaprojektowana w celu zapewnienia wydajności i skalowalności rozwiązania (możliwość obsługi nawet tysięcy użytkowników równocześnie). System monitoruje zachowanie użytkowników na podstawie zdarzeń generowanych przez nich w trakcie interakcji z systemem i wykorzystuje metody drążenia danych i analizy statystycznej w celu odkrywania preferencji użytkowników. Wzorce zachowań oraz preferencje są podstawą do utworzenia reguł adaptacji, które, uruchomione przez zmianę stanu aplikacji lub wygenerowane zdarzenia, powodują dostosowanie interfejsu aplikacji do potrzeb użytkownika.

Adaptive user interfaces allow users to modify the look and functionality of the application to suit their preferences. They are often used to increase user effectiveness and acceptance of a given software system. Adaptivity of the user interface poses certain new challenges if the application is delivered via the Web. The solutions for these challenges are presented in the article on the basis of an innovative adaptive e-banking system. The architecture of the system was designed for performance and scalability (up to thousands of users at the same time). The system is able to track user behaviour based on the events generated by the users during interaction with the system and uses data mining techniques to discover user preferences from the obtained event stream. The behaviour patterns and user preferences are converted into adaptation rules which are triggered either by change of the state of the application or events generated by the user.

Security is one of the basic human needs. Due to the increasing citizens’ activity in the cyberspace, a need for security in this area is increasing. The cyber-threats may appear in many forms: from malware and phishing, to fraud or scams attempts. Rapid technological development makes the traditional methods of obtaining information insufficient for an automatic Web monitoring with the aim of detecting potential threats. The paper discusses the problem of monitoring of Web sources and indicates the existing gap between the volume of available information and the decision-making ability. Finally, it presents an example from the field of cyberspace security: Semantic Monitoring of Cyberspace project and achieved results.

Administracja publiczna w ciągu ostatnich dziesięciu lat dokonała wielu zmian w procesie codziennej komunikacji z obywatelami. Pojawiły się nowe kanały komunikacji (mobilny, usługi oferowane przez WWW), zwiększyła się efektywność prowadzonych działań, a oferowane usługi są coraz częściej projektowane z uwzględnieniem także ich późniejszej użyteczności dla obywateli. Problemem jednostek administracji jest jednak nadal wysoki koszt tworzenia wspomnianych rozwiązań. Mimo istnienia elektronicznej platformy usług administracji publicznej (ePUAP), urzędy często są zmuszone do implementacji własnych rozwiązań spełniających ich wewnętrzne wymagania, zgodnych z istniejącym elektronicznym systemem obiegu dokumentów. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie rozwiązania opracowanego w Katedrze Informatyki Ekonomicznej UEP, które w założeniach stanowi architekturę referencyjną dla rozwiązań w administracji publicznej. Artykuł prezentuje także przykładowe wdrożenie architektury oraz jej implementację w gimnazjum w Murowanej Goślinie.

Public administration during the last 10 years has introduced many changes with regard to its everyday contact with citizens. This concerns introduction of new communication channels (mobile as well as WWW services), increase in the effectiveness of tasks being performed as well as design of new services taking into account their usability (from the user’s perspective). The major issue is however the cost of development of solutions supporting the A2C and A2B communication. ePUAP platform that was to address these issues is still far from being usable in fulfilling all the requirements and therefore a need for standalone solutions still exists. The aim of this paper is to present a reference architecture together with its implementation developed at Department of Information Systems of the Poznań University of Economics. The article also includes validation of both artifacts that was carried out in Murowana Goślina High School.

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki prac i eksperymentów dotyczących problemu przetwarzania niestrukturyzowanych tekstów napisanych w języku polskim w celu identyfikacji w nich ofert kupna, sprzedaży lub wymiany. W badaniach wykorzystano reguły ekstrakcji przygotowane na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy korpusu. W artykule omówione są wybrane przykłady reprezentujące trudności, jakie niesie ze sobą omawiany problem. Opracowane podejście zostało poddane eksperymentalnej ocenie, na której podstawie skuteczność identyfikacji ofert została określona na 83% (według miary F1), natomiast określanie typu oferty (czy jest to kupno, czy sprzedaż) działa poprawnie w ponad 95% przypadków.

This article presents the results of research and experimentation on processing unstructured texts written in the Polish language in order to identify which of these texts contain buy, sell or exchange offers. The approach applied was based on manually prepared rules of extraction based on an analysis of a corpus of documents obtained from the Internet (within the Semantic Monitoring of Cyberspace project). In the article, selected examples of text fragments are discussed which show what challenges had to be addressed to solve the problem. The chosen approach was then experimentally evaluated; the accuracy in identifying offers reaching 83% (according to the F1-score), while determining the offer type (whether buying or selling) was correct in over 95% of cases.
