Knowledge is a strategic resource of an enterprise. In order to efficiently utilise this resource in creating innovative processes four conditions have to be fulfilled: clear and comprehensible strategy; ability to identify symptoms of innovativeness; engagement to innovative processes as many employees and structural divisions as possible; active benchmarking and experimenting.

One of the essential development trends in rewarding employees is the increasing role of rewards as tools of the strategic management within the enterprise. In compliance with such an idea, the strategy of rewards should support the strategy of the organization as well as it ought to be coherent with its objectives, enable the enterprise to achieve better results and consequently assure the increase in its competitiveness. The main objective of the research was to find out the answer whether the strategic priorities of rewarding established by the enterprises existing on the Polish market are compliant with their strategic activity targets.

The results of research carried out among 71 enterprises are discussed in the paper. It was confirmed that stimulation of employees to more efficient work and their retention in the organization belong to priorities of pay strategies

Spin-offs originate from universities are important actors for the commercialization of technological novelties. Spin-offs' innovative potential is supported by modification of Polish law and special funding organizations. Moreover, Poland leads many pro-innovative activities stimulating scientists to start their own companies.
