The 'lam rim' prayer represents a traditional Buddhist text. It is written to the honour of the greatest Buddhist masters. It belongs to the group of 'khrid chen brgyad' - the eight great texts on the graded path among which there are also 'lam rim chen mo' - the great 'lam rim', 'lam rim 'bring' - the medium 'lam rim', 'lam rim chung' - the short 'lam rim', 'lam rim gser zhun ma' written by the 3rd Dalai Lama, the instructions of Manjushri of the 5th Dalai Lama and three other texts. The 'lam rim' in this article belongs to the fourth type of 'lam rim' within the mentioned eight sorts of texts. It covers the lineage of Indian scholars who gave a stable background of the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism whose names are followed by the lineage of the bKa' gdams pa greatest masters in 'lam rim', treatise and instructions.
