The author attempts to point out the mechanisms in the process of learning – teaching characteristic for the theory of psychoanalysis, which have been expressed in this context by Anna Freud. The integral element of the paper is the biography of the pioneer of the children’s psychoanalysis, especially the innovative methods of education applied by her in the independently created school (the Matchbox School). The main part of the presented content is the assumption that the attitudes of the pedagogue towards the students are affected by one’s own educational experiences from the childhood – both those rooted in the material reality, as well as in the psychological. The conclusion consists of an abridged version of a case study illustrating the process of identification and its consequences for the teacher – student relationship.
Relational approach to autism is a specific way of understanding needs of the child with development disorders based on three strong fundaments – psychoanalysis, development psychology and psychopathology. It is a result of complex research of typical development and identification of caretaker’s intuitive reactions, which support the child best and in a natural way. Relational therapy is not a remedy for every issue in autism. However, it should be an important, central element of a good-enough, holistic educational and therapeutic program. An introduction to other, educational-oriented activities, like learning which is a dyadic process of interaction between two people of whom one is always a teacher for another. Connection and relation should be an essence of every intervention dedicated to autistic children to, as a result, make the autism thaw.
Therapeutic intervention focused on building and developing relationship skills is a crucial element of well-prepared support program for pupils with autism spectrum disorders. An example of such intervention is „Autyzm relacyjnie. (Re)integracja społeczna dzieci z zaburzeniami ze spektrum autyzmu mających trudności w funkcjonowaniu w grupie rówieśniczej” a research grant of „Przepis na wielkopolską innowację społeczną – usługi opiekuńcze dla osób zależnych” Inkubator WINS by Regionalny Ośrodek Polityki Społecznej w Poznaniu. Project „Autyzm relacyjnie (...)” has been carried out since October 2017 till December 2018. Its test phase had lasted six months and provided two hours of relationship therapy every day in four different educational institutions. Analysis of detailed descriptions of sessions prepared by therapists participating in the project and regular observation of therapeutic process showed that the intervention was successful and brought positive results in a form of (1) increase in levels of social and emotional competences of participating students and (2) their social inclusion (learning in the classroom together with peers). It seems that because of those positive results, the program “Autyzm relacyjnie” should be continued and developed so it could be implemented in a broaden way in varied educational institutions.

Artykuł stanowi przegląd wybranych światowych badań naukowych dotyczących dzieci i młodzieży dotkniętych różnego rodzaju ograniczeniami sprawności. Z drugiej strony nadal brakuje trafnych i rzetelnych narzędzi diagnostycznych i specyficznych metod terapeutycznych.

The paper presents a review of selected global research on children and youth with different types of disability. The results of the query show the interest of researchers both in many kinds of children’s disabilities, and in developmental and psychosocial problems. On the other hand, the number of research tools and specific therapeutic methods is still insufficient. Studies seem not to keep up with rare genetic diseases, which are occurring at an alarming rate. There is a clear difference in access to therapeutic methods and reliable and valid diagnostic tools in Poland and other European countries.
