The article deals with the issue of monitoring an employee at his workplace. It sets forth the essential legal conditions which must be met for the employer’s action to be lawful in the light of national and international regulations. In general, it concerns the possibility of workers’ inspection conducted by the employer using electronic technology e.g. video cameras, phone tapping or computer programs spying on employees’ actions on the Internet. Development of new technologies enables obtaining information on different aspects of employees’ lives, including personal details. It poses a considerable danger to employees’ rights to privacy which might be infringed by employers’ illegal actions. It seems that the majority of employers’ operations are contrary to the law. Some of employers are even not aware of falling foul of the law. The publication explains how to inspect workers while acting in accordance with the spirit and the letter of the law.
