The aim of the paper is to present the trends of prices of farm products and those of food retail prices in Poland. An increase of prices of farm products as a raw material was smaller than that of the prices of finished food products in years 1997-2008.

Polska jest eksporterem netto wysoko przetworzonych produktów zbożowych i saldo obrotów w tym handlu poprawia się.

An analysis based on empirical data for the period 1999-2008 presents the Polish foreign trade in grains and cereal products. Poland is a net importer of grains and a net exporter of highly processed cereal products. The balance of trade in these products is ameliorating for Poland.

Production, consumption and Polish foreign trade in milk and dairy products in years 1990-2005 have been presented. In the analysed period growing trends in production of dairy products, foreign trade and consumption of cheese were observed, moreover, decreasing consumption of butter and milk have been recorded. Since 1991 the Polish trade balance in dairy products remained positive. In 2005 total milk and dairy products export reached 880 millions EUR and import was 98,6 millions EUR. The EU countries become the most significant purchasers of Polish dairy products. In 2005 they reached more than 75% share in the total value of Polish dairy exports (in 2001 share this share was 26,9% and 40,5% in 2003).

The enlargement of the European Union caused changes in the Polish foreign trade in agrifood products. Since the first year after the Polish accession the foreign trade turnover has been growing and the EU member states have become Polish main trade partners in exchange of many products.

Przystąpienie Polski do Unii Europejskiej spowodowało zmiany w handlu zagranicznym artykułami rolno-spożywczymi. Rok akcesji zapoczątkował dynamiczny wzrost wymiany zagranicznej, a kraje Unii Europejskiej stały się głównym partnerem handlowym w wymianie wielu produktów.

The aim of the paper is to present the influence of EU enlargement on food consumption level and on the raw agricultural products prices in Poland. The analysis of consumption level of selected food products asserts that trends have been continued since the 90s. and Polish accession to the EU has not changed them. Raw agricultural products prices in the common market have become more equalized since the EU enlargement.

W artykule przedstawiono wpływ rozszerzenia Unii Europejskiej na poziom konsumpcji żywności w Polsce oraz na ceny surowców rolniczych w kraju. Analiza poziomu konsumpcji wybranych artykułów żywnościowych pokazała, że dotychczasowe trendy są kontynuowane od początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych, a akcesja Polski do Unii Europejskiej nie miała na nie wpływu. Rozszerzenie Unii spowodowało, że ceny surowców rolniczych wyrównują się wewnątrz wspólnoty.
