The article discuses 304 private press collections in Eastern Galicia at the time of partitions. These were mainly owned by gentry, intelligentsia and clergy. There is also evidence of press readership among peasants.

The article is concerned with intellectual property in the eras of printed and digital press. In the former case, intellectual property takes form of the copyright to a creative work; in the latter, it is largely concerned with access to the media as the main source of profits. The concept of free access to information is fairly popular. A majority of technologies continue to be anonymous.
