The contribution deals with the topic of aesthetization of public space and use of modern architecture in historically valuable environment. These issues have been debated for a long time. The aim of our contribution is connected with questions concerning the topic of aesthetization. We defined the following questions: How can coexistence of history and present state of architectonic works reflect the city ́s image. Can symbiosis of historical and contemporary, old and new create more suitable conditions for realizations of cultural activities? Can architecture of today be regarded in terms of respecting the architectonic language of the past and does it respect past monuments with honour? Public spaces that should play its representative function are to a great extent influenced by interventions into historical architectural structure. In the conclusion of our contribution we present the reader with several famous examples from Slovakia as well as from abroad which confirm that aesthetisation of public space is to a great extent dependent on adherence to and respect of cultural traditions.

Fashion stands on the periphery of intellectual interest. It is considered a fleeting phenomenon of modern society. The concept of fashion is much wider than just the definition of the latest fashion wave. Fashion involves a direct reaction to trends, company development and contemporary culture. The development and impact of fashion brands depends on the cultural and social factors in which the brands are located. The aim of this contribution is to answer questions related to the social and cultural role of this phenomenon. The socio-cultural aspect of trademarks is analysed in the example of brands used in the fashion industry in contrast to two communities – France and Czechoslovakia in the 20th century. The paper analyses the impact of French fashion brands in Czechoslovakia.

The main objective of the research presented in this paper was to examine the social, economic, legal and political consequences of Brexit and its impact on the migrant strategies of the Slovaks living in the UK. We used qualitative-research methods in the form of 30 in-depth semi-structured interviews online after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the original plan of interviewing the participants face-to-face to be abandoned. The approach used in the interviews was biographical, addressing the migrants´ personal history (in respect to migration), present (in respect to Brexit) and future (in respect to both Brexit and migration). A qualitative analysis of the collected data showing that Brexit did not alter the migration strategies of those 30 Slovak research participants, especially those from the post-EU-admission migration wave. They did not intend to go back to Slovakia and did not perceive any immediate negative impact of Brexit on their lives. However, the focus of this paper is on those who emigrated before 2004 and can see the UK, their own lives and consequences of major political decisions in a broader perspective.
