Starszy pracownik na rynku pracy w Polsce: 40+? 50+? Czy tylko „plus”?

Artykuł przedstawia proces społecznego konstruowania starości na rynku pracy w Polsce, który dokonuje się za pomocą poszczególnych dystynkcji wiekowych, jakimi są między innymi wiek chronologiczny, społeczny, psychologiczny czy kognitywny. Analiza treści 30 wywiadów pogłębionych z małopolskimi pracodawcami w małych, średnich i dużych przedsiębiorstwach, a także wywiadów eksperckich z przedstawicielami instytucji rynku pracy służy za materiał empiryczny do odpowiedzi na pytanie o istotność poszczególnych progów wiekowych dla sytuacji jednostki w obszarze zatrudnienia. Artykuł ukazuje ponadto działanie mechanizmów wykluczania osób starszych z rynku pracy, które można zaobserwować zwłaszcza w niektórych sektorach gospodarki, choć czynione są postępy w kierunku zwiększenia efektywności obowiązującego w Polsce prawa antydyskryminacyjnego.

The article presents the process of social construction of old age in the labour market in Poland, which manifests itself through different age distinctions, such as chronological, social, psychological or cognitive age. The analysis of 30 indepth interviews with employers in Małopolska region from small, medium and large enterprises, as well as expert interviews with representatives of labour market institutions comprises empirical material to formulate an answer to a question about the consequence of age signifiers for the situation of an individual in employment. Moreover, the article illustrates the functioning of some mechanism of exclusion of older people from labour market, which despite the fact that efforts are being made in order to increase the effectiveness of the anti-discrimination legislation in Poland, are still particularly prominent in certain sectors of economy.

The aim of this article is to take a closer look at national Israeli policies in the domain of population growth. Demography plays a powerful role in understanding the Israeli society and the changes it has experienced over time. The “demographic struggle” presents the constant effort of the Jewish population to maintain, regardless of the costs, the numerical majority of the Jews in Israel. The central means to achieve the demographic dominance are the immigration policies and fertility rate, therefore the control over these factors of social life is of primary importance to the Israeli authorities. The methods of managing and influencing the two demographic indicators are discussed in the article in details, since the differences between the Arab and Jewish communities in this area are crucial. The article presents also briefly the role of demography in constituting ethnic democracy in Israel
