DISCORDANCE OF HENRICH BARTEK'S CODIFICATION EFFORTS

The author studies the codification principles of Henrich Bartek formulated in his design of the Slovak orthographic rules from 1939, their continuity with codification in 1953 and the difference between the etymological and phonetic criterions in the conception. Special attention is paid to the functionality of Bartek's codification principles, to the dominance of the phonetic criterion and to some inconsistencies in the codification layout from 1939 due to uneven attitude to graphical and acoustic form.

In the first part, the author brings a brief outline of steps leading to the creation of the Slavic Linguistic Atlas from the year 1929. It presents linguists who participated in creation of this monumental work (mainly for the Slovak part). The second part is devoted to the present times with the emphases on computer processing which is of a great benefit for compilers of the newer volumes of the Slavic Linguistic Atlas. Computer processing has been introduced since the year 1996. The author presents summary of the development and improvement of specialized software programs including the support program MAPola and font ZRCola which are used at present. The text is complemented by samples of computer processing from the 4th volume of the atlas focused on agriculture.

The author goes back to the substance of the Stur's codification from the year 1846 and on the background of general historical and mainly linguistic works about the Stur's movement looks for connections between interlinguistic and extralinguistic reasons of miscarriage of the original codification. He deals with Stur's change of conservatism in the range of the standard language, mainly of this form and structure, and with reasons, which led to the change of the original codification.

The author deals with manuscript records of the musical compositions - tablatures. The tablature, which have been preserved since the 16th century as a musical and text notation of various authors from the different denominational and cultural surroundings are valuable source of the research of a public form and appropriate stylistic differentiation of the Slovak language in its pre-standard period. Also the 'Vietoris' tablature from the years 1660 - 1670 belongs to this kind of documents. Records of the secular compositions, in their name, theme, contents and function, gain a significant nation-identification character.

The article deals with a project of analysis of natural development processes of the noun declination in dialects of the Slavic languages in a special volume of the international project - 'Slavic Linguistic Atlas'. The author offers a basic experience from cartographic processing of morpho-phonological and/or morphological items in particular Slavic macro-areas and points out the necessity of the synthetic analysis of the natural development of the noun declination in dialects of the Slavic languages as a starting point of the explanation focused on the nature in morphology.
