Demographic prognoses concerning many European societies, among them the Polish one, are implacable – in the perspective of twenty years one fourth of the Poles will be older persons. Thus, a per-ception of an older person must change in the social consciousness, which on the one hand can function actively in life, realise her/his inter-ests and passions, on the other hand she/he can depend on assistance from the family\or an institutional aid because of changes which take place in a human body in relation with growing old. A state as an organi-sation is obliged to create the social policy towards persons who need support, which is guaranteed by the basic law and subsequent detailed law. On their grounds function among others social assistance homes or nursing homes for old people. One of examples is NZOZ DSS „Leśniówka” (the podkarpackie province).
