The subjects of this research are medical students originating from villages. Base of analysis are results of empirical research conducted in the spring of 2005 among medical students from Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz, the University of Mikolaj Kopernik in Torun. The research was aimed at diagnosing the basic social and demographic characteristics of medical students, their financial aspirations and attitudes towards profession as well as their plans. It appears that the future-profession plans of students from villages concentrate on willingness to obtain specializations diploma, but unlike their colleagues originating from towns, almost 15% of them are planning to obtain a family doctor status. Similar number of graduates (16%) declare, that they will settle in villages and start professional career in this environment. It was noted that medical students from villages are prepared, twice as often as their 'town' colleagues,to be employed for lower earnings. Group of students described here may constitute a very important background for the family medicine evolution in Poland. To have an own practice at village on the ground of individual contracts with the National Health Fund could essentially change the family doctor status at villages.
