The paper analyses apocalyptic eschatological manifestations in the writings of Jan Milíč of Kroměříž, Matthew of Janow, and Jan Hus with regard to their emphasis on the role of preachers and persons working toward renewal at a time full of the activity of the Antichrist before the end of the world. As concerns Milíč and Janow, it also focuses on their elaboration of the medieval exegetic concept of preachers "in spiritu Enoch et Helie", and as concerns Hus, it follows the line of preceding authors and analyses his concept of preaching as such and resistance to ecclesiastical authority.

The paper focuses on the apocalyptic elements of the work Arbor vitae crucifixae Iesu by the Spiritual Franciscan Ubertino of Casale. It specifically pays attention to Ubertino’s explanation of the Apocalypse within the historical context where he interpreted certain living persons as bearers of the label of apocalyptic enemies. The paper introduces Ubertino’s concept of the theology of history, presents his source of inspiration, and explains the originality of the concept. Apart from direct quotations from the Arbor vitae, the paper also contains a brief biography of Ubertino of Casale.

The article attempts to outline the major theological concepts of history by great medieval exegete Joachim of Fiore, it reflects his apocalyptic experience of that time and describes the main features and methodology of his exegesis. Moreover, the article documents, based on the description of Joachim, apocalyptic expressions in the writings of John Huss; it also examines the possible influence of prophecies and tries to answer the question whether it is possible to find any signs of the influence of Joachim of Fiore, or his disciples, on the John Huss’s work.

The article focuses on Olomouc bishop Robert (1202–1240) and attempts to discover the reasons behind his resignation. Pope Gregory IX issued a papal bull in 1237 in which he condemned Robert for his public rejection of reverence for the stigmata of St. Francis of Assisi, as he did not deem them genuine. Thus, within the context of the relevant events at that time, Robert criticized important aspects of papal policy. In order to determine the broader motives for Robert’s denial of the stigmata of St. Francis of Assisi, the text analyses written evidence of Francis having received the stigmata, the documents of the church authority’s opinions on the stigmata up until the end of the 13th century, and also the general reasons for denying the stigmata.
