The university’s classic formula refers to the importance of an in-depth relationship between the professor and his students. However, one can get the impression that currently students’ expectations towards the university have changed significantly, which is why higher education institutions are currently facing a paradigmatic change. In this article, the author analyses selected phenomena of technicalization of the university, indicating the possibilities and potential threats to the identity of academic institutions.

The article deals with the problem of adaptation of scholars to the changing conditions of academic work. Often, scholars turn out to be socially maladjusted, and thus not suited to mainstream approaches – a modern university providing education for the needs of the economy. The question, however, is whether this state is correct or perhaps requires changes in the mentality of scientists.

Artykuł porusza problem przystosowywania się uczonych do zmieniających się warunków pracy akademickiej. Częstokroć uczeni okazują się niedostosowani społecznie, a więc niepasujący do wymagań głównego nurtu – współczesnego uniwersytetu kształcącego na potrzeby gospodarki. Pytanie jednak, czy ten stan jest właściwy, czy być może wymaga zmian w mentalności ludzi nauki.

Artykuł prezentuje źródłowe inspiracje czegoś, co można nazwać „polskim modelem uniwersytetu”. Model ten wyłania się w funkcjonowaniu polskich uczelni w XX wieku i niewątpliwie ma związek z fundamentami naukowości położonymi przez Kazimierza Twardowskiego w działalności filozoficzno-logicznej Szkoły Lwowsko-Warszawskiej. Artykuł stawia sobie za cel eksplorację źródeł inspiracji Twardowskiego, które wpłynęły na kształt jego szkoły, a także przełożyły się na szersze funkcjonowanie polskich uczelni wyższych. Wśród źródeł autor wskazuje na teksty Immanuela Kanta, Wilhelma von Humboldta i Karla Jaspersa.

The article presents the source inspirations of what can be called the „Polish university model”. This model emerges in the functioning of Polish universities in the 20th century and is undoubtedly related to the foundations of science laid by Kazimierz Twardowski in the philosophical and logical activity of the Lvov- Warsaw School. The article aims to explore the sources of Twardowski's inspiration that influenced the shape of his school, and also translated into the wider functioning of Polish universities. Among the sources, the author points to the texts of Immanuel Kant, Wilhelm von Humboldt and Karl Jaspers.

Niniejsze opracowanie stanowi próbę wyłonienia fundamentalnej dla perspektywy długiego trwania stałej struktury uniwersytetu akcentowanej w tej instytucji na każdym etapie jego istnienia. Istotnym elementem tej struktury była i jest wciąż autonomia uczelni rozumiana jako niezależność naukowa oraz administracyjna od rozmaitych form przymusu religijnego i świeckiego. Praca akcentuje więc przede wszystkim ten element, prowadząc przez szeroki horyzont czasowy – od antyku do początków polskiej transformacji ustrojowej.

This study is an attempt to identify the fundamental structure of a university structure that is fundamental to the prospect of the long duration of the university's accentuation at every stage of its existence. An important element of this structure was and still is the autonomy of the university understood as a scientific and administrative independence from various forms of religious and secular coercion. Therefore, the work emphasizes this element above all through a wide time horizon – from antiquity to the beginnings of the Polish systemic transformation.
