The inhabitants of rural areas account for nearly 39% of the population of Poland. Because of the age structure and favourable reproduction factors, the demographic resources of villages form an important part of the total human capital of Poland. Every possible effort should be launched to make the most profitable use of these resources. The main form of the process of activation should be the multifunctional development of rural areas.

Draft of content: Migrations are characterised by high area’s differentiations. It means that these migration have an impact on demographic transformations. The basic aim is to show the impact of migrations on the dynamics of the real growth of population in all the 16 current voivodeships in Poland, with a division into urban and rural areas. In the paper only defi nitive (permanent) domestic migrations were taken into consideration.

The main aim of the study is to show the influence of migration on the dynamics of the real growth of population in all the 16 present-day voivodeships, with a division into urban and rural areas. Only definitive (permanent) internal and interna- tional (foreign) migrations were taken into consideration here. Since migration is a two- directional movement − inflow (immigration) to a given territory and outflow (emigra- tion) from the former place of residence − we dealt here both with newcomers (incoming population, immigrants) to the territory of all 16 voivodeships and with the population leaving given voivodeships permanently. A particularly detailed analysis was applied to net migrations or migration balances.
