The aim of the paper is to describe periphrastic structures used in the Bible or referred to the biblical texts as well as to persons, events and places associated with the doctrine included in the Old and New Testaments. Material for the discussion comes from The Dictionary of Periphrases - Periphrastic Expressions by Miroslaw Barika, published in 2003. The paper contains the following four parts: 1. Characteristic of periphrasis as a rhetorical, stylistic and grammatical device. 2. Characteristic of The Dictionary of Periphrases - Periphrastic Expressions by Mirosfaw Barika. 3. Semantic and genetic classification of periphrastic structures directly or indirectly connected with the Bible, included in The Dictionary of Periphrases by Miroslaw Barika: 3.1. Names of God, Jesus (Christ) and Mary - Mother of God, and saints. 3.2. Names of Satan and other evil spirits. 3.3. Names of the Bible, gospels and Eucharist. 3.4. Names of churches (institutions), religions connected with the Bible, pope, priests, monks and nuns. 3.5. Names of places (countries, towns) of saints, places of worship, directly or indirectly connected with the Bible or pope. 3.6. Names of churches (buildings). 3.7. Names of a man, of people and nations. 3.8. Names of sins and crimes. 3.9. Names of illnesses and death. 3.10. Names of age. 3.11. Names of nudity. 4. Conclusion. The final part of the paper includes conclusions of the analyses, referred to such aspects as the following ones: - sources of the periphrastic structures, - their semantic characteristic, - reasons for their usage, - part of speech they belong to, - their stylistic characteristic, - orthographic characteristic of many periphrastic structures referred to the Bible.
