Zagraniczne spółki zależne polskich przedsiębiorstw – propozycja problematyki badawczej

The paper undertakes a discussion on foreign subsidiaries of Polish companies. The scale of Polish foreign direct investment (FDI) continues to grow and this means that soon there may be a gap between business practice and knowledge of management science. The author proposes the hypothesis which states that Polish FDI do not run according to the processes proposed by the phase models (e.g. Uppsala model), but they have a certain degree of leapfrogging. The initial phase of internationalization of Polish enterprises and their motives led the author to the formulation of two other hypotheses regarding the roles foreign subsidiaries play within the Polish international companies. One is that foreign subsidiaries of Polish enterprises play, in most cases, a role called the implementer by typology of Ch.A. Bartlett and S. Ghoshal, and the second is, that in most cases, these are the entities that in the typology of A.K Gupta and V. Govindarajana are called implementor.

One of criteria for differentiating small-sized enterprises is the fact of belonging or not to a business group. It seems to be quite important for research in this size businesses. The paper presents the results of the study on the implementation of a strategy and the strategy formulation process in small-sized enterprises. The results showed quite significant differences depending on whether or not the enterprises were subsidiaries of a business group. These differences may become a starting point for a discussion on the importance of this feature in management science.

Sieci międzyorganizacyjne często utożsamia się z wysoką elastycznością i zdolnościami adaptacyjnymi. Brak jest jednak jednoznacznych potwierdzeń empirycznych w tym obszarze, w szczególności dotyczących elastyczności na płaszczyźnie wewnątrzorganizacyjnej. Głównym celem opracowania jest prezentacja wyników badań terenowych nad elastycznością strategii organizacji węzłowych. Wykorzystując metodę przekrojowego studium przypadku, pogłębionej analizie poddano siedem przedsiębiorstw, stosując różne techniki gromadzenia danych, a dwa przedsiębiorstwa scharakteryzowano szczegółowo w opracowaniu. Zaprezentowane badania ukazują przykłady przeciwnych kierunków zmian w obszarze elastyczności strategicznej w warunkach współpracy sieciowej. W przypadku jednego z obiektów badania zaobserwowano, że rzeczywiście zwiększeniu stopnia intensyfikacji powiązań sieciowych towarzyszyło zwiększenia stopnia elastyczności strategii. W drugim jednak kierunek ten był odwrotny – zwiększanie stopnia intensyfikacji współpracy sieciowej skutkowało „usztywnieniem” strategii działalności.

Inter-organizational networks are frequently associated with high degree of adaptive capabilities as well as sense and respond approach, although there is a lack of empirical evidence in this field, especially concerning flexibility at the micro level analysis. The main aim of the paper is to present the results of field studies on strategic flexibility of network nodes. Basing on cross case study research design, seven enterprises were investigated deeply, using various techniques of data collection, and two of them were presented in the paper in a detailed way. The study presented shows instances of opposite changes directions in strategic flexibility under conditions of network cooperation. In the first case it was observed that, an increasing of the degree of intensification of network connections was accompanied by increasing in the flexibility of the strategy. However, in the second case this direction was quite opposite and increasing the degree of intensification of network cooperation resulted in stiffening of the business strategy.

The paper content is embedded in the network paradigm and concerns the intensity of network relationships. The aim of the paper is to conceptualize and initially operationalize the construct “intensity of network relationships”. The aim has been realized through answering the following research questions: (1) How to identify and explore a set of network relationships of a single organization? (2) How to conceptualize and operationalize the extent to which an organization (node organization, network member) is involved or entangled in the inter-organizational network analysed from the ego-network perspective? The conceptualization and operationalization of the construct have been developed by means of a deepened literature study as well as initial case studies performed by the authors. The paper is organized as follows. The first section presents the essence, origins, and perspectives of researching inter-organizational networks. The construct called intensity of network relationships is conceptualized in the second section. Then, the dimensions of network relationship intensity and its operationalization proposal are highlighted. Finally, some conclusions, limitations, and research directions are formulated.

Artykuł mieści się w nurcie badań nad sieciami międzyorganizacyjnymi i dotyczy intensywności powiązań sieciowych. Celem artykułu jest konceptualizacja i próba operacjonalizacji konstruktu „intensywność powiązań sieciowych”. Cel został zrealizowany poprzez próbę odpowiedzi na następujące pytania badawcze: (1) Jak identyfikować i badać sieć powiązań międzyorganizacyjnych pojedynczej organizacji? (2) W jaki sposób ująć i zmierzyć stopień zaangażowania czy uwikłania danej organizacji (organizacja węzłowa, członek sieci) w sieć międzyorganizacyjną? Konceptualizacji i operacjonalizacji omawianego konstruktu dokonano poprzez pogłębione studia literatury i wstępne studia przypadków przeprowadzone przez autorów. Na początku zaprezentowano istotę sieci międzyorganizacyjnych i przywołano wybrane wyniki badań w tym obszarze. Następnie przedstawiono konceptualizację konstruktu – jego ogólny zarys i istotę, a w ostatniej części artykułu wyróżniono wymiary intensywności powiązań sieciowych wraz z próbą wskazania na sposoby ich badania. W zakończeniu sformułowano konkluzje, a także wskazano ograniczenia przeprowadzonej analizy i kierunki dalszych badań.

The article presents passive magnetic methods applied in non-contact diagnostics which can find application in forensic examinations, and in particular can be used within the framework of the project “Passive and active magnetic methods as the basis for a new examination methodology related to detecting, combating and neutralizing terrorist threats and organized crime” financed by the National Centre for Research and Development and implemented by a scientific consortium, led by the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police.
