The author demonstrates that finds of Helix pomatia L. shells cannot be connected with the Lusatian Culture strongholds from the Early Iron Age on Komorowska Island. These snail shells should be associated, at least in part, with the Early Medieval stronghold that stood on the island and possibly also in part with the Late Medieval occupation.

The author indicates terms (and their meaning), borrowed chiefly from English, but also from German, occurring with increasing frequency in archaeological studies published in Polish. They place limitations on the use of some phrases, which have been present for a very long time in Polish archaeological terminology.

This paper addresses issues raised by a paper published recently in this journal on the interpretation of symbolic graves in the Pomeranian culture, taking the opportunity to correct some inaccuracies presented there (Stepańczak et al. 2011). In particular, it shows that in some circumstances where small remains of human bone occur in graves they may be there by accident, without taking away from the symbolic character of such burial remains. In addition, two unpublished examples of graves with no evidence of burial are described
