Energy and fuels constitute strategic products that have actual impact on almost all the elements of appropriate functioning of the state. Due to its multidimensional nature and importance, energy security becomes the reason of state. The document entitled Poland’s Energy Policy until 2030, among the basic directions of this policy lists improved security of fuels and energy supplies. One of the key investments aimed at diversifying the sources and directions of supplies, is the construction of the terminal for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG). It will allow for establishing Poland’s alternative system of gas supplies. Other elements of the system are the following: interconnectors that allow for transmitting fuels from the west and from the south, and the North-South gas corridor that ultimately will connect the terminals in Poland and Croatia.
In his article, the author presents problems related to the functioning of the oil production sector in the world and in Poland. He also discusses the prospects of national entities of the sector. The two companies – Orlen and Lotos – have modern processing plants at their disposal thanks to which they can have products which allow for obtaining an optimal model margin. The capacity of the refinery in Płock, which is owned by Orlen, stands at over 16 million tons of oil annually. In the case of Lotos, the refinery in Gdańsk can process about 10 million tons of oil a year. The two refineries are favourably located which allows for obtaining raw material through two independent channels – Russian oil through the “Przyjaźń” pipeline, and various types of oil transported by sea by Naftoport and the system of pipelines managed by the PERN company.
At the time of raising environmental protection standards, the economic development makes it necessary to use energy coming from sources other than oil and gas. Biofuels are an alternative here. Thanks to biofuels, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced in a natural way. The article attempts to present and assess the activities of the public administration undertaken to make biofuels derived from plants more popular in Poland. These activities have been examined during the audit on the use of biofuels and bio-components in transportation. The authors of the article, on the basis of the audit findings and literature related to the topic, present why the forecast results have not been achieved, and the role of performance auditing.
