The article presented in this volume is an attempt to answer the question of how to analyze popular science texts in text linguistics aspect. They belong to a very different type of text defined in many ways. The proposal of an analytical model and the results of studies carried out on the popular science texts in the field of biology is given in this article.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the role of turn-taking in dialogs of Polish and German schoolchildren aged from 13 to 15 years. The paper begins by describing the project and briefly viewing the most relevant definitions (e. g. turn, backchannels, segments). The next section presents the notation system and the methods. The samples were selected from the BORDERLAND data bank and, in total, they included nine pairs and over 1,000 segments. On this basis, it can be concluded that turn-taking in uniform pairs (Polish-Polish and German-German) is more defensive, and that the interlocutors tend to use more segments. There might also be a slight tendency for Polish speakers to interrupt their interlocutors more frequently. The findings, based on our samples, also suggest that speaking a foreign language (as we can notice in the German-Polish pairs) usually means less competitive speaking, as well as fewer segments and turn-takings

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedyskutowanie roli i typów elementów wizualnych w tekstach popularnonaukowych. Z tym powiązane jest pytanie dotyczące definicji tekstu. Jak dotąd nie doczekało się ono ostatecznej odpowiedzi, co jednak – jak wiele na to wskazuje – nie jest konieczne, ponieważ każda perspektywa badawcza rozumie ten fenomen na swój sposób. Bazę analiz empirycznych stanowi 45 tekstów popularnonaukowych dotyczących biologii i dziedzin pokrewnych.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the role of visual elements in popular science texts. Closely connected to this issue is the question of the definition of text which – as it seems – could not yet be solved in a complete and satisfying way for everyone (and probably it does not need to be solved, as each scientific research perspective-justifiably – has its own understanding of this phenomenon). The analytical base for the empirical research undertaken here, consists of 45 popular science texts taken from magazines, inwhich biology and related disciplines are a topic of discussion.

Das Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrags ist es, die Funktion und Typen visueller Elemente in populärwissenschaftlichen Texten zur Diskussion zu stellen. Damit geht die Frage nach der Textdefinition einher, die – wie es scheint – immer noch nicht endgültig und für alle zufriedenstellend beantwortet werden konnte. Vermutlich muss sie nicht beantwortet werden, da jede Forschungsperspektive ihr eigenes Verständnis unterstützt. Die Untersuchung basiert auf 45 populärwissenschaftlichen Zeitschriftenartikeln aus dem Bereich der Biologie und benachbarter Disziplinen.

Das Ziel dieses Beitrags ist zum einen, einen kritischen Überblick über die vorhandene neuere und ältere Literatur zum Themenkomplex ‚Rechtssprache und ihre [Un]Verständlichkeit‘ zu geben, und zum anderen, einen Kriterienkatalog zur adäquaten linguistischen Beschreibung von Rechtstexten (hier konkret von Studienordnungen), dargestellt an Stichproben aus einer deutschen und einer polnischen Studienordnung, zusammenzustellen.
