Although surveys have been conducted for over a hundred years, for long Europe never had an association focusing on methodology of this type of research. The beginning of the 21st century brought considerable increase in the number of international research projects while the process of political unification of European states boosted the demand for such research. Since continuing integration of European countries increases the need for international surveys, the number of such projects has increased in recent years. Regular exchange of experiences among researchers and statistical analysts became necessary to make survey research standards uniform. It therefore became a natural need to establish an organization that could serve as a platform for exchange of experiences and coordinate the exchange.
