The emergence of intellectual causes two different factors: on the one hand, the social demand for intellectuals, on the other — a fundamental willingness of the potential intellectual to take his mission. Intelligentsia and later intellectuals are consistent departure from the scientific position of value neutrality toward engagement by demand of society. Intelligentsia strategy embodies the ethics of persuasion, and intellectual’s one — the ethics of responsibility. In today’s society these strategies are largely different directions for the application areas of intellectual and moral efforts than competing moral positions.

Інтелектуал — не професія, але радше покликання. Не професія, оскільки таке покликання, попри те, що потребує постійного напруженого інтелектуального життя, набуває свого публічного вияву лише у кризові суспільні часи (дай Бог, щоби такі часи взагалі нас минали). Справжній інтелектуал не шукає кризи, а шукає можливості її уникнути — для чого в певних ситуаціях не обійтись без залучення якомога ширшої, але при цьому відповідної цим ситуаціям публіки.

Social philosophy as a general social theory and academic discipline

The article deals with the analysis of the situation and prospects of social philosophy as an academic discipline. This analysis is based on a review of several interrelated problems: relation of social philosophy with social theory and social technology, social philosophy relationships with other philosophical and social sciences, theoretical and methodological level of textbooks in social philosophy available in Ukraine and Russia, attitude towards social philosophy as science and discipline abroad, particularly in Germany, France, Great Britain and the United States, outlining of the theoretical origins of social philosophy and main directions of its possible future development. The author’s vision is proposed of the range of fundamental problems of philosophy and conditions of its successful teaching as an academic discipline.

У сучасному соціальному пізнанні соціальна філософія нерідко виявляється присутньою не стільки інституційно як чітко визначена навчальна дисципліна або спеціальна галузь наукового пізнання, скільки як певна загальна настанова — пізнавальна, методологічна, світоглядна, прагматична і соціально-технологічна. Приклади втілення цієї настанови можна продовжувати і далі, зокрема зауважуючи, що соціальна філософія нині є певним загальним філософським налаштуванням, коли за постановку і навіть нерідко розв’язання соціально-філософських проблем береться не лише практично кожна філософська дисципліна, але й окремі соціальні, гуманітарні, а інколи навіть і природничі (як теоретична фізика) або технічні (як кібернетика) науки чи далебі окремі теорії — теорія еволюції, синергетика тощо. Таку ситуацію варто розглядати як творчу кризу соціальної філософії, коли проблематичність її дисциплінарної самоідентифікації створює широкі можливості для залучення даних та ідей з різних теоретичних джерел та, не треба забувати про це, різних соціальних практик (досить лише згадати вражаючі суспільні успіхи різного роду соціальних мереж).
