The article presents the influence of Protestantism on education. The main thesis of the article is that the Protestant system of education, which emphasizes not only the religious aspect but also the element of understanding in the process of learning, was the most important factor in the development of modern education. The Reformation enabled some new pedagogical ideas and concepts to develop freely. Thanks to Luther`s dual concept of “Christperson” (the man for Christ) and “Weltperson” (the man for the world) the Protestant education started to perceive the double role of education - for the church and for the society. The most important conclusion that is drawn here is that the Protestant pedagogy with the emphasis on understanding is the alternative model to the modern technological concepts of standardisation and measurability of this discipline of science.

They are presented at the background of educational implications of the Reformation’s theology. These principles shape normative standards evaluating the educational process. Among criteria of normative standards are: respect towards every individual, emancipation, acceptance of pluralism, ecumenism, comprehensive concept of education with special stress on existential and spiritual dimensions, emphasis on the hermeneutical aspect of education. Idea of educational justice demands to view the education not only from the angle of acquiring qualifications but also in the existential perspective.
The paper is devoted to the exposition of the Reformation’s roots of eloquence as the premise of contemporary idea of literacy. The eloqence is presented in perspective of Reformation’s pedagogy. The author based on historical source materials and reconstructed the idea of eloquence at the background of the thought of M. Luther, Ph. Melanchton and J. Sturm and their concepts of school education. He focused on hermeneutical principles of protestant tradition and it’s educational implications. In this perspective the eloquence determines the faith consciousness and the maturity of a human being.
