Kościół ma do zaoferowania Europie najcenniejszy z darów, którego nikt inny nie może dać: wiarę w Jezusa Chrystusa, który jest jedynym źródłem niezawodnej nadziei. To dar leżący u początku duchowej i kulturowej jedności narodów europejskich, który obecnie i w przyszłości może wnieść to, co najistotniejsze w jej rozwoju i integracji. Wspólnoty kościelne w Europie stawiają czoła własnym słabościom, obawom i podziałom. Muszą ciągle wsłuchiwać się w głos Jezusa Chrystusa, który wzywa do nawrócenia, dodaje odwagi w podejmowaniu nowych wyzwań i powołuje do zaangażowania się w ogromne zadanie, jakim jest nowa ewangelizacja. Każdy chrześcijanin ma za zadanie podjąć się tej ewangelizacji, służąc Dobrej Nowinie poprzez okazywaną miłość. To ona – caritas – jest królewską drogą wyznaczoną wszystkim, niezależnie od otrzymanego charyzmatu i pełnionej posługi czy zadania w Kościele. Cała wspólnota eklezjalna jest wezwana, by kroczyć śladami swojego Mistrza, bo Kościół ze swej natury jest misyjny.

The Church has to offer Europe the most precious of all gifts, a gift which no one else can give: faith in Jesus Christ, the source of the hope that does not disappoint; a gift which is at the origin of the spiritual and cultural unity of the European peoples and which both today and tomorrow can make an essential contribution to their development and integration. Ecclesial communities in Europe are struggling with weaknesses, weariness and divisions. They need to hear anew the voice of Jesus Christ, who invites them to conversion, spurs them on to bold new undertakings and calls forth their commitment to the great task of the new evangelization. Serving the Gospel of hope by means of a charity which evangelizes is the commitment and the responsibility of everyone. Whatever the charism and ministry of each individual, charity is the royal road prescribed for all and which all can travel: it is the road upon which the whole ecclesial community is called to journey in the footsteps of its Master. Kościół Chrystusowy, określany jako jeden, święty, powszechny i apostolski, trwa (subsistit) – jak mówi Konstytucja dogmatyczna Lumen gentium – w Kościele katolickim, rządzonym przez Piotra oraz biskupów pozostających z nim we wspólnocie. Słowo „trwać” wskazuje, że również poza jego widzialnymi strukturami istnieją liczne pierwiastki uświęcenia i prawdy, które jako dary jedynego Kościoła nakłaniają do jedności katolickiej. Stwierdzenie to otwiera szerokie pole do dyskusji nad niektórymi aspektami tajemnicy Kościoła oraz aktualnymi wyzwaniami misji głoszenia królestwa Bożego współczesnemu światu. Do najważniejszych zadań postawionych współczesnemu Kościołowi należą: zaangażowanie w ruch ekumeniczny (1), dialog z innymi religiami (2) oraz posługa miłosierdzia (3).

Rola Ducha Świętego w zbawczym wydarzeniu Jezusa Chrystusa wskazuje na Jego stałe i dynamiczne działanie. Duch Święty mówi o Jezusie jako umiłowanym Synu Ojca, z którym stanowi jedno. Objawienie zaś, które przynosi Jezus o swoim Ojcu, osiąga swoją pełnię w objawieniu Ducha Świętego, jako odwiecznej więzi miłości między Ojcem i Synem. Duch Święty objawia całą tajemnicę Chrystusa i daje nam poznać swoją rolę w życiu i misji Jezusa. Wyraźnie można dostrzec to w następujących wydarzeniach: wcielenie, nawiedzenie, ofiarowanie w świątyni, duchowy rozwój, chrzest w Jordanie, kuszenie na pustyni, przepowiadanie, śmierć na krzyżu i zmartwychwstanie.

The role of the Holy Spirit in the salvific event of Jesus Christ points to His constant and dynamic action. The Holy Spirit speaks of Jesus as the beloved Son of the Father, with whom he is one. The revelation that Jesus brings about his Father reaches its fullness in the revelation of the Holy Spirit as the eternal bond of love between the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit revels the whole mystery of Christ and gives us an insight onto his role in the life and mission of Jesus. This can be clearly seen in the following events: incarnation, visitation, offering in the temple, spiritual development, baptism in the Jordan, temptation in the desert, preaching, death on the cross and resurrection.

Sakrament Eucharystii w jego wymiarze ofiarniczym uobecnia jedyną ofiarę Chrystusa Zbawiciela, która dokonała się w Misterium Paschalnym. Kościół jako Mistyczne Ciało Chrystusa w każdej celebracji eucharystycznej sprawowanej we wspólnocie wiernych buduje duchową więź określaną jako communio. Ofiara eucharystyczna staje się dla wiernych w ich codziennym życiu ofiarą Mszy Świętej.

The Holy Eucharist, in which Christ the Lord Himself is present, offered and eaten, gives true life and growth to the Church founded by Him. The sacrament of the Eucharist, in its sacrificial dimension, makes present the one sacrifice of Christ the Savior which was accomplished in the Paschal Mystery. The Church, as the Mystical Body of Christ, in every Eucharistic celebration celebrated in the community of the faithful, builds a spiritual bond known as communio. The Eucharistic Sacrifice becomes for the faithful in their daily lives a sacrifice of the Holy Mass.

Misja Kościoła w dzisiejszej Europie, podobnie jak w każdym czasie i we wszystkich miejscach, to głoszenie Ewangelii nadziei, która została mu przekazana przez Jezusa Chrystusa. Ten obowiązek określa jednocześnie tożsamość Kościoła i jego powołanie, by nauczał wszystkie narody, włączał ludzi w Mistyczne Ciało Chrystusa poprzez chrzest i uobecniał nieustannie Ofiarę, która jest pamiątką Jego śmierci i zmartwychwstania. Europa potrzebuje nowej ewangelizacji w związku z ogromnymi zmianami polityczno-społecznymi w ostatnich dekadach. Nowa ewangelizacja zakłada przepowiadania tajemnicy Chrystusa na podstawie świadectwa jedności Kościoła oraz szeroko pojęty dialog (ekumeniczny, międzyreligijny, kulturowy, społeczny). Służba Ewangelii nadziei powinna przejawiać się w posłudze miłosierdzia wobec najbardziej potrzebujących pod względem materialnym i duchowym. Kościół w Europie, służąc społeczeństwu, musi wiernie głosić prawdę o małżeństwie i rodzinie, broniąc cywilizacji życia i wskazując na najgłębsze wartości wypływające z Dekalogu.

The Mission of the Church in Europe today, as in all times and in all places, is the proclamation of the Gospel of hope, which has been given by Jesus Christ. This part specifies the identity of the Church and its vocation to teach all Nations, involve people in the Mystical Body of Christ trough baptism and make constantly present Eucharistic Sacrifice, which is a reminder of His Death and Resurrection. Europe needs a new evangelization in connection with huge political and social changes in recent decades. The new evangelization presupposes the preaching of the mystery of Christ based on the testimony of the unity of the Church and widely understood dialog (ecumenical, inter-religious, cultural, social). Serving the Gospel of hope should be manifested in the ministry of mercy to the most needy in terms of material and spiritual. The Church in Europe, serving the public, must faithfully proclaim the truth about marriage and the family, defending the civilization of life and pointing to the deepest values of the Decalogue.

The Church’s Mission in modern world is realized through the proclamation of the word of God, as a Good News. The source of the Church’s mission is a revealing God, who invites each person for trinitarian community of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Church called to existence by God’s Son, Word-Logos, proclaims Him as “Logos of Hope” through missio ad gentes and the new evangelization. In this task the testimony of Christian life plays an irreplaceable role. The Word of God, like the Christian faith itself, has a profoundly intercultural character; it is capable of encountering different cultures and in turn enabling them to encounter one another. Interreligious dialog, led by the Church, is a particular instrument of inculturation. It searches for the common points, together with other religious representatives and denominations on both theological and anthropological basis.

Uświęcające zadanie Kościoła realizuje się w sposób szczególny poprzez sprawowanie sakramentów. Zostały one ustanowione przez Chrystusa i powierzone Kościołowi jako środki, dzięki którym wyraża się i wzmacnia wiara, oddawana jest cześć Bogu oraz dokonuje się uświęcenie człowieka. Przyczyniają się one także do wprowadzenia, umocnienia i ukazania w sposób zewnętrzny wspólnoty kościelnej (communio ecclesiae). Sakrament chrztu świętego jest podstawą życia chrześcijańskiego, bramą dla pozostałych sakramentów, a także fundamentem, na którym budowana jest wspólnota Kościoła. Teologiczno-prawne aspekty kanonów 849-878 Kodeksu prawa kanonicznego (1983) dotyczą: znaczenia i skutków sakramentu chrztu, obrzędów chrzcielnych, szafarza i osoby przyjmującej ten sakrament oraz chrzestnych, stwierdzenia i zapisania przyjętego chrztu.

The sanctifying task of the Church is carried out in a special way through the celebration of the sacraments. They were established by Jesus Christ and entrusted to the Church as the means by which faith is expressed and strengthen, worship is given to God and human sanctification is accomplished. They also contribute to the introduction, strengthening and external visibility of the ecclesial community (communio ecclesiae). The sacrament of baptism is the foundation of Christian life, the gateway to the other sacraments, and the foundation on which the community of the Church is built. Theological and legal aspects of canons 849-878 of the Code of Canon Law (1983) concern: the meaning and effects of the sacrament of baptism, the baptismal ordinances, the minister and the person receiving the sacrament, the baptismal ordinances, the confirmation and recording of the baptism received.

The pope Benedict XVI in Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini (2010) has presented fruits of the work of the XII Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which had as its theme: „The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church”. Nowadays, there is no greater priority for the mission of the Church than this: to enable the people of our time once more to encounter God, the God who speaks to us and shares his love so that we might have life in abundance (cf. Jn 10:10). The economy of Revelation has its Trinitarian dimension, so, God, who speaks to people, makes it always as the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Triune God goes toward people with the word of salvation, which is present in the work of creation and redemption, in the living Tradition and the sacred Scriptures. Since God “so loved the world that he gave his only Son” (Jn 3:16), the divine word, spoken in time, is bestowed and “consigned” to the Church in a definitive way, so that the proclamation of salvation can be communicated effectively in every time and place.
