The article aims at describing the genocide that happened in Cambodia. It takes into consideration its specific character and focuses on what occurred there. During the Khmer Rouge’s dictatorship not only were hundreds of thousands of people murdered (about 2.5 million victims according to different sources), but also negative symbols became connected with objects of everyday use. Such objects have become a source of memories about events which were final, inevitable and traumatic.

The article aims to present the themes of popular contemporary women’s novels. The contexts for the analyses are stereotypes of sex and commercial expectations. The marketing strategy of the publishers and authors is important as well as the changing rules about creating the image of an author by the media. Pretending social involvement in popular women’s novels is connected with marketing strategies and the need to refer to popular subjects is of secondary importance. What is important, however, is the literary awareness of the authors and the capacity of recognizing the place of one’s own creativity on the map of pop culture.

The article describes different forms of promoting the literature of genres and the consequences of such promotions for the fans of certain genres. The author examines a crime story portal: ways of describing the genre, offering (or not) the reader the possibility to create some content and co¬ create the portal (which can be done by encouraging the readers to make commentaries or participate in the contests). Establishing a direct contact with readers, results in creating a community of fans. The article presents the following websites: „Portal Kryminalny”, „Zbrodnia w Bibliotece”, „Deckare.pl”, „Klub MORD – Klub Miłośników Powieści Milicyjnej” i „Zbrodnicze Siostrzyczki”.

This article offers a critical reflection on Agnieszka Dauksza’s book Jaremianka. Biografia, a biography of the artist Maria Jarema. Situating the publication in the context of contemporary trends in biographical writing, it concentrates on the following topics: the biographer’s presence in the text, the personal character of biographical reflection, the question of the border between biography and biographical reportage, and the relationship of the work under discussion with herstory.
