The author considers peculiarities of the “existential turning-point in sociology”, and in this connection he presents a conception of existential sociology of Belgian Scientist Marcel Boll de Ball stated in a form of the interview. Main principles of Boll de Ball’s existential sociology are discussed: existential sociology as the fundamental theory; “reliance” as the central notion (conception); study-action as a fundamental method of research; “socio-analysis” as the fundamental practice for sociologists; pluralism of models in sociology; clinical and applied sociology as a promising field of investigation, actions and teaching. Besides, general scientific problems of sociologic existentialism are distinguished which can become a reference-point for further empirical and applied investigations. Birth and bioethics, vital development, love as a social phenomenon, etc. In conclusion it is noticed that M. Boll de Bal’s existential sociology may become one of the key elements of the system unification of separate trends of existential-sociological thought.

For the past decade sociologists have been increasingly diagnosing the new social and cultural phenomenon of ‘mindful revolution’ that confronts more institutionalised aspects of collective practices such as the communicative, technological and informational acceleration, advanced consumerism, overchoice and ‘post-truth’ politics. At the core of mindfulness practices are the values of presentism and de automatism, which are maintained by meditative and contemplative techniques. Integration with other subcultures into relatively homogenous structural clusters of the sociocultural system is an important manifestation of mindfulness as a set of existential values. Outside the religious dimension of Buddhism there are three main forms of subcultural practices that tend to interconnect with mindfulness and form such a structural cluster – minimalism, slow living, and wellness. There is a certain tendency for mindfulness to develop as a societal ‘mode of being’ or constitutional life strategy, and transfer from the subcultural position to the level of dominated cultural patterns in the form of institutionalised reflexivity. Consideration of the mindful revolution as part of large-scale social and historical processes leads to a deeper understanding of its causes, forms, and tendencies.
