This paper examines selected brain imaging studies with a view to draw conclusions regarding the functioning of language in the brain. It focuses on difficulties involved in interpreting the results of studies employing the state-of-the-art brain mapping technology, concluding that current knowlege from such experiments being fragmentary and of a very general nature is yet unable to impose specific constraints on linguistic models. The authoress also mentions briefly other physical aspects of brain structure and functioning, e.g., ones related to its molecular level organization, that do or will constrain models of language in the future.
