The Circumstances of the Origin and the First Years of My Little Newspaper (1902-1905)

The subject of the article is the origin and development of the periodical My Little Newspaper when Aniela Szycówna held the duties of the editor-in-chief. Despite the numerous references to this title in publications devoted to juvenile periodicals, there is no genuine and in-depth study of its origin and functioning in the initial years. The research conducted in this field involves answering the following questions: How did the newspaper come about? Whose texts were published in there? What message did it convey to its readers? What was its formal side like? What distinguished it from other contemporary papers? An analysis of four years of that weekly and the literature on the subject allows to conclude that an inspirer of the periodical was M. Arct, a Warsaw-born bookseller. Prominent poets, writers, journalists and pedagogues published their articles in My Little Newspaper. Among the discussed subjects there were moral, social, religious, historical, geographical, environmental and tourist-oriented issues as well as some topics referring to traditions and customs. Black and white graphic design with texts illustrated with drawings and pictures was characterised by editorial diligence. Its articles were tailored to the abilities of young readers. They were all based on the most recent knowledge on child development with appropriate care for its substantive level, which guaranteed its educational value and distinguished it on the publishing market.

W artykule podjęto problem powstania i rozwoju periodyku „Moje Pisemko” w okresie, kiedy obowiązki redaktorskie sprawowała Aniela Szycówna. Mimo że stosunkowo często tytuł ten przywoływany jest w publikacjach poświęconych czasopiśmiennictwu dla dzieci, to brak jest szerszych i pogłębionych informacji o jego genezie i funkcjonowaniu w kolejnych latach. Poszukiwania w tym zakresie zmierzały do udzielenia odpowiedzi na pytania: Jak doszło do ukazywania się pisemka? Czyje teksty zamieszczane były na jego łamach? Jakie treści przekazywał czytelnikom? Jak prezentowała się strona formalna pisma? Czym wyróżniało się od innych wydawnictw tego typu ówcześnie istniejących? Analiza czterech roczników tego tygodnika i literatury przedmiotu pozwala stwierdzić, że inspiratorem powołania periodyku był warszawski księgarz M. Arct. Natomiast utwory na jego łamach zamieszczali uznani poeci, pisarze, dziennikarze i pedagodzy. „Moje Pisemko” podejmowało na swych łamach zagadnienia moralno-społeczne, religijne, historyczne, dotyczące tradycji i zwyczajów, geograficzno-turystyczne, przyrodnicze. Czarno-biała szata graficzna, z tekstami ilustrowanymi rycinami i rysunkami charakteryzowała się starannością edytorską. O jego walorach wychowawczych i wyróżnianiu się na rynku wydawniczym świadczy fakt, że tworzono je w oparciu o najnowszą wiedzę o rozwoju dziecka i w dbałości o odpowiedni poziom merytoryczny zamieszczanych utworów, dostosowanych do możliwości odbiorczych młodszych czytelników.

A firm choosing among various solutions in working capital needs to decide what level of risk is acceptable for its owners and capital suppliers. That choice results in financial consequences, especially in the cost level. In this paper we consider the relation between risk and expected benefits from the working capital decision and its results on financing costs for the firm. The paper discusses a relation between the choice of strategy of investment in current assets and the results of that choice on the growth of firm value.

The authors conceived a new simple method for creating the approximation of the border of investment opportunities. The method enumerates all the possibilities of assigning weights to the investment portfolio. It does not enable short sales. The software which the authors coded is written in VBA and also enables active management. The method is simple, accurate but demanding. The authors also created a simple methodology for testing the quality of the approximation of the border of investment opportunities.

Financial liquidity interconnections are close to be a portfolio investment problem. The following article is a result of the Slovak–Polish cooperation, between partners from University of Economics in Bratislava and Wroclaw University of Economics. We have created a set of three programs in MS Excel which calculate the approximation of the border of the investment opportunities. The applications are continually developed. All programs are written in VBA for Excel. The following article introduces the second and the third program in which we have coded the fundaments of the portfolio selection to the VBA Excel. Their names are FINV and IDPORT. The FINV calculates the border of investment opportunities by using matrix algebra. FINV works with the enabled short sales. IDPORT calculates the border of investment opportunities by using SOLVER, which is the optimization library. The software has many settings which will be described in the article. It demonstrates the fundaments of the theory of investment portfolio and it is suitable for the teaching purposes at this stage of the development.
