One of the consequences of the Polish thaw that came in the wake of October 1956 developments, was a change in the role played by mass organizations. They assume a paternalistic, clientist and inclusive nature. The activities of these organizations are accompanied by the strengthening of personal ties, arranged in a complex network of informal influences and mutual obligations. That spontaneous form of social self-organization, secondary compared to the formal structures of the People's Republic of Poland, is a characteristic feature of the realities of the 1960s; by praying on state institutions, it stabilized the system at the same time. The article presents the antecedents of the events of 1967 and 1968 in the light of the activities of the Union of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy (ZBoWiD), showing its operations both in the social and ideological sphere. Twenty years after the war the war veterans are getting old, increasingly becoming 'professional' war veterans, who profit from acting in the Union of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy, if they decide to act that way. At the same time, as they find the time to engage in public life, they exert an influence on official stories about World War II, which are stories of Poland's martyrdom and resistance movement.

The article presents Special Demographic Zone Program in Opole and it shows methods and ideas created for the eradication of negative social and demographic consequences of depopulation process in the region. Author used the “desk research” method and analysis of documents method to show actions aimed at seniors’ caring and helping system, their activation, and the inclusion of elderly people as a growing postproduction population. Elaborated solutions are supposed to be universal for the whole country.

Artykuł prezentuje założenia Programu Specjalnej Strefy Demograficznej w województwie opolskim oraz działania, których celem ma być niwelowanie negatywnych skutków społecznych i demograficznych depopulacji regionu. Autorka posłużyła się metodą desk research oraz analizy dokumentów, by zaprezentować działania skierowane na opiekę, pomoc i aktywizację seniorów jako rosnącej populacji osób w wieku poprodukcyjnym. Wypracowane praktyki mają stać się rozwiązaniami uniwersalnymi w skali kraju.

Article refers to general perception of old age as a period characterized negatively. Nowadays old person and\or pensioner is a person with low prestige in society, old age is recognized as sad period, useless, unsatisfying. Authors present results of research carried among participants of Universities of Third Age about their own perception of old age in a positive context. Authors analyze the statements (opinions) of students using the positive psychology and conditions of satisfaction, that subjectively describe old age as positive phase of life. Conclusions from that research give us important facts about adult education as well as gerontology prevention.
