The author draws attention to the Western thought being based first and foremost on visual image, from Plato’s “eidos” to E. Husserl’s “phenomena”. The new Western thought, however, states as original and principal the other, tactile foundation of world perception. The author dwells upon the concept of “being handy”, “at hand” (Zuhandene), offered by M. Heidegger. The “by touch” contact with the world is prime and basic, for it comes before other senses. The main point of the article is that the human expecting an object to answer appears determined by the first object to touch — a human body.
