The article presents detailed analysis of the interrelations between metaphor, metonymyand image schema in the metaphorical conceptualization of FEAR/STRACH in English andPolish. The theoretical framework of the study is provided by the Conceptual MetaphorTheory, which is one of the basic elements of Cognitive Linguistics. The material used in theanalytical part comes from various lexicographic sources and language corpora. The studyalso deals with a comparative analysis of some elements of the conceptual model of FEARacross the two languages.
