In the article I discuss the various metamorphoses of the form and content of managerial functions as presented by Henri Fayol (1841-1925). Within a century, his formula has became - to my mind - a root around which the area of organizational and personnel management has been evolving. The managerial functions was a subject taught by me in Szkoła Wyższa im. Pawła Włodkowica (Paweł Włodkowic College) in Płock (1996-2001) and in Wyższa Szkoła Przedsiębiorczości i Zarządzania im. Leona Koźmińskiego (Kozminski University_ in Warsaw (2001-2005) in the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs. Over 1 500 employed students have described in their theses the ways of implementing one of the five functions in their employers' companies. For the sample I have chosen 576 descriptions based on the following key: the size and the characteristics of a company, the managerial function and its realization in a given company, the note a thesis got: 4.0, 4.5, 5.0. The research, despite not being representative in a statistical sense, confirmed the observed and experienced gap between the theory that is taught and presented in the literature on the subject and the day-to-day practical experiences of several students' generations (both male and female) gained in their companies environments.

W artykule poddaję pod dyskusję przemiany formy i treści klasycznych funkcji menedżerskich autorstwa Henri'ego Fayola (1841-1925). W ciągu stu lat jego formuła stała się - jak sądzę - rdzeniem, wokół którego rozwija się i doskonali nauka zarządzania organizacjami i kierowania ludźmi. Funkcje menedżerskie stanowiły jeden z przedmiotów wykładanych przeze mnie w Szkole Wyższej im. Pawła Włodkowica w Płocku (1996-2001) oraz w Wyższej Szkole Przedsiębiorczości i Zarządzania im. Leona Koźmińskiego w Warszawie (2001-2005) na studiach licencjackich, magisterskich i podyplomowych. Ponad półtora tysiąca studentek i studentów pracujących opisało w pracach egzaminacyjnych sposoby realizowania jednej z pięciu funkcji w ich firmach. Do analizy materiału wybrałam 576 opisów według klucza: / wielkość i cechy firmy / funkcja menedżerska i sposób jej realizacji w danej firmie / ocena za pracę 4,0; 4,5; 5,0/.Badania te, choć nie były reprezentatywne w sensie statystycznym, potwierdzały obserwowaną i doświadczaną osobiście przepaść pomiędzy wykładaną i prezentowaną w literaturze przedmiotu teorią a opisaną przez kolejne roczniki studentów (kobiet i mężczyzn) doświadczaną codziennie praktyką organizacji i zarządzania w ich firmach.
