The article discusses the poetry which takes up the theme of the Holocaust of the Jews during the Second World War. It is composed of four parts. The first one concerns the issue of the “inexpressibleness” of the experience of the Shoah – the influence of the Holocaust on language and human communication. The second part explores the motif of destructive mark that the Holocaust had left on the perception of Europe’s cultural heritage. The third part of the article includes interpretation of poetic works in which crisis of faith is visible as well as doubt in God’s omnipotence, brought about by the tragic events of the years 1939-1945. The last part deals with the theme of Jewish tradition – identity, customs and symbols, which had to undergo reinterpretation due to the Shoah. This article is supposed to show the mark left by the war and the Holocaust, which – on many planes – became a theme of a lot of poetic works.

Contextualization in L2 vocabulary instruction – an action research study

The principal objective of the present article has been to explore if incorporating contextualization activities into teaching unfamiliar words in teaching English as a foreign language is conducive to students’ vocabulary expansion and refining their word knowledge. The paper aims to supply an insightful analysis of the action research study undertaken by the present writer as well as a report on its findings. The major goal of the study was to examine the value of context-based instruction as well as activities employed for the purpose of the students’ vocabulary development. The results obtained from the research revealed that the contextualization is not only a beneficial tool for enhancing the students’ vocabulary growth and consolidation, but a relevant motivating factor as well.

Stowarzyszenie Narodów Azji Południowo-Wschodniej (ASEAN) zamierza stworzyć wspólną przestrzeń szkolnictwa wyższego w Azji Południowo-Wschodniej w ramach pogłębiania procesu integracyjnego. Jednakże zróżnicowany charakter systemów szkolnictwa wyższego w dziesięciu krajach członkowskich, wynikający z kontekstu historycznego i kulturowego, stał się istotnym wyzwaniem na drodze do harmonizacji. Celem niniejszej publikacji jest przegląd uwarunkowań i priorytetów działania szkolnictwa wyższego w państwach ASEAN pod kątem oceny możliwości utworzenia wspólnego obszaru szkolnictwa wyższego. Głównym źródłem informacji są raporty i publikacje dostępne na stronach internetowych zajmujących się problematyką szkolnictwa wyższego oraz organizacji rządowych i pozarządowych zaangażowanych w ten proces. Dobór źródeł wynika z dynamiki zmian poruszanej tematyki, a także chęci skorzystania z możliwie najaktualniejszych danych statystycznych
