This article presents selected methods of written text analysis and interpretation using interpretative approach. This approach aims at discovering senses, i.e. personal attitudes (experiences). The work starts with classic theory of life-span development by Ch. Buhler and moves on to present contemporary research, published since 2005, including psychological interpretation of B. Cohler’s diaries from the ghetto, as well as studies in the area of narrative identity. The article includes an example of extensive analysis and interpretation of a diary, inspired by D. McAdams’ method of Life Stories. Presented theoretical and practical proposals constitute a pragmatic contribution to interdisciplinary discussion on methods of using private documents as research material.

The popularity of contemporary communication media, including social network sites, with youngpeople creates new conditions for development in the area of interpersonal relationships. This article contrib-utes to the discussion about potential, both positive and negative, consequences of internet communicationfor friendship quality. The questions asked in the research referred to the impact of the attitude towards theInternet (open, overwhelmed) on the ways in which friends communicate, especially on a potential decreasein face-to-face meetings and perceived quality of friendship. The research included 658 teenagers and youngadults. It used “The Internet-Interpersonal Relationships Questionnaire” by D. Chmielewska-Łuczak and“Friendship Quality Questionnaire” by M. Żurko. The results obtained in the research show that withinthe research group internet communication between friends results in the increase in their face-to-facecontacts. This is in line with research results showing positive influence of internet communication onclose relationships. The research is a part of the research program exploring the globalization impact onthe adolescents’ and adults’ psychosocial functioning.

Popularność wśród młodych ludzi nowoczesnych mediów komunikacyjnych, w tym serwisówspołecznościowych, stwarza nowe warunki rozwoju relacji interpersonalnych. Artykuł jest głosemw dyskusji nad potencjalnymi konsekwencjami korzystania z zapośredniczonej Internetem komunikacji dla jakości przyjaźni. Postawione pytania dotyczyły skutków w sposobie kontaktowania sięprzyjaciół, zwłaszcza ewentualnego zanikania spotkań „twarzą w twarz” oraz spostrzeganej jakościprzyjaźni w zależności od prezentowanej postawy wobec Internetu (otwarta, przytłoczona). Przebadano658 nastolatków i młodych dorosłych kwestionariuszem Internet- Relacje Interpersonalne D. Chmielewskiej-Łuczak oraz kwestionariuszem Jakości Przyjaźni M. Żurko. Uzyskane wyniki pozwalają nastwierdzenie, że w badanej grupie zwiększenie częstości kontaktów zapośredniczonych przez Internet między przyjaciółmi jest związane ze zwiększeniem częstości ich kontaktów „twarzą w twarz”,co jest spójne z wynikami badań wskazujących na pozytywne znaczenie Internetu dla bliskichzwiązków. Okazało się, że im bardziej otwarta postawa wobec Internetu, tym wyższa spostrzeganajakość przyjaźni. Badanie jest częścią projektu dotyczącego wpływu globalizacji na funkcjonowanienastolatków i dorosłych.

Specyfika psychologicznej interpretacji tekstu pisanego: przegląd badań

This article reviews some selected psychological studies, the source of which are written texts, including personal documents. The test procedures and its results were described in two ways: the quantitative and the qualitative one. The results of the quantitative research were selected depending on their use for the text interpretation, with the focus on the narrator (the relationship between the form of expression and a mental state or permanent mental disposition). The research on fixing meanings of personal identity (narrative or dialogue), or the meaning of life, is set as the qualitative approach. The starting point is a classic biographical study of Ch. Buehler, then a psychological study based on diaries from the ghetto, then some selected results of over 20-years’ study on the narrative identity of D. McAdams and finally the study using H. Hermans’s Dialogical Self Theory in clinical psychology.

W artykule dokonano przeglądu wybranych badań psychologicznych, w których jako źródło danych wykorzystano teksty pisane, w tym dokumenty osobiste. Scharakteryzowane zostały procedury badawcze i rezultaty w ramach dwóch podejść: ilościowego i jakościowego. Rezultaty badań ilościowych zostały wybrane pod kątem ich przydatności dla interpretacji tekstu (zależności między formą wypowiedzi a stanem psychicznym lub trwałą dyspozycją psychiczną) ukierunkowanej na osobę narratora. W ramach podejścia jakościowego przedstawione zostały badania dotyczące ustalania znaczeń (sensów) podmiotowych konstytuujących tożsamość osobistą (narracyjną lub dialogową) lub sens życia. Punktem wyjścia są klasyczne badania biograficzne Ch. Buehler, następnie omówione są psychologiczne badania dzienników z getta, wybrane strategie i ustalenia w ramach ponad 20-letnich badań nad tożsamością narracyjną w ujęciu D. McAdamsa oraz badanie wykorzystujące teorię dialogowego Ja H. Hermansa w klinicznej psychologii stosowanej.

The purpose of the article is to present a specific nature of an interpretative approach in psychological qualitative research. To be more precise, it is aimed at conducting research, analysis and interpretation of narrative materials in a way that is coherent with a theoretical model. The proposed research procedure is a result of the authors’ long term experiences in using a narrative method in an interpretative model of psychological qualitative research based on M. Straś-Romanowska’s concept (1992). The research procedure is presented on an example of examining ways of experiencing a divorce by women with various length of post-divorce life and different autobiographical experiences.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie specyfiki podejścia interpretatywnego w psychologicznych badaniach jakościowych. Precyzując – chodzi o spójne z modelem teoretycznym prowadzenia badań, analizę oraz interpretację materiałów narracyjnych. Zaproponowana procedura postępowania badawczego jest wynikiem wieloletnich doświadczeń autorek w stosowaniu metody narracyjnej w interpretatywnym modelu w psychologicznych badaniach jakościowych, opartych na koncepcji M. Straś-Romanowskiej (1992). Postępowanie badawcze zostało przedstawione na przykładzie badania sposobu doświadczania rozwodu.
