The Metropolitan Ervin Szabo Library started to introduce web 2.0 applications in 2006. The virtual reference of the European Union Collection at the library uses the following library 2.0 opportunities: social bookmarks, Google Search Engine, blogging and RSS feed collector. On the occasion of the Hungarian Year of Renaissance - 2008 a few new wiki sites have been created on PbWiki. The site 'reneszansz.pbwiki' was launched by the Metropolitan Ervin Szabo Library. This site uses Youtube, Bubbleshare and mp3 for multimedia. The reference service related to contemporary world literature is supported by a collection of literary blogs, social bookmarks and an appropriate search engine, forming a mashup. This solution makes it possible to extend the scope of existing reference services, reaching authors and works which have not been discovered by Hungarian readers and academics yet, which have not been widely published or are not part of mainstream literature. The different departments of the library also use iWiW, the popular social network. All these solutions use open source software, which is a great relief for the budget and ICT infrastructure of the library.
